MemberI recently ran a regular security sweep of my system, anti-virus, ad-ware, etc., and the next time I restarted my computer, when I logged in Yahoo messenger everything worked fine until I went to send a IM and i got a error message. I saved the error log it created, but obviously its a wee big so i wont post it unless needed.

Anyway, this is the first time this has ever come up and after a little bit of digging i suspect it may have something to do with the ypager.exe that seems to have dissappeared, then again i know zip about messenger so its a guess. I tried a clean uninstall and re-install, and still the same error comes up. I just updated to messenger 7.5. I would appreciate any help that you guys could provide.I run a Windows XP with all the updates.
I run Internet Explorer but mostly use the lastest Firefox as my browser.May 29, 2006 at 3:55 pm #145452pkorisa
MemberDid you delete all related Folders manually before reinstalling? I do recall reading somewhere that Yahoo requires you to do that. How about trying to dowlonload just the ypager.exe into C:Program FilesYahoo!Messenger folder. Let us know how it works.

MemberYa, I have deleted it every way i can think of, manually and going through the add/remove progams controls, as well as hunting down any file or registry associated with yahoo messenger and still no luck. When I install the 7.5 it does not install a ypager.exe, it does install several DLL’s with the name but even then still no luck :(. My ad-ware and anti-virus quarentine the files before i delete them, I restored those files and still nothing. I am at the end of my ideas as to the problem. If anyone understands the mess that comes in a error log i can post it.

MemberHave you tried deactivating anti-virus und ad-aware while installing the messenger? I had a similar problem once and it turned out that my anti-virus program was interferring during installation.

MemberFirefox..
There have been rumors going around about a trojan or bug in the new messenger. It could be just a but that logs your use and sends it to yahoo, but what is happening is people that have scanned their computer to clean it up, have had problems even logging into messenger.
It could be that an important file you needed was deleted.
Here’s a few things to try.
Do a go back. Try setting your computer BACK to the date when you didnt’ have any probelms.
Make sure your internal XP firewall is turned off. When you do some of the windows updates, it turns this firewall on again, as the default.
And lastly, even tho you remove yahoo thru add and remove program, and you go to the program directory and remove all the folders that say yahoo, you should still do a search for “yahoo”. There are some things that will still come up. There are entries in your temp folder, in your prefetch folder and in your registery.
I suggest after doing a search for “yahoo” or even Ypager, and delting all that, that you run a registery scan to remove the entry in your registery that is still there for yahoo.
Let us kno how it goes.

MemberMay I ask what download site did you download your messenger? and which country?
What I do when I download anything is make sure I am not running anything else that doesn’t need to run. I always download from a trusted resource such as Yahoo messenger download from their site. I try to download things during the middle of the night where chances of others downloading is less likely. I upgrade the same.
So far I have had less problems this way and although it may or may not help you by following suit, but it certainly would not hurt to try.
Good luck
