Member***TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION BELOW*** (Experts only 😉 )
Hi all. I was playing around with Trillian at work and I think I accidentally created some sort of invalid user away state. Essentially, whenever I try to login to Messenger, and ONLY Messenger, I get the standard 3-box that states my username/password could be incorrect, do I want to create a new user, have login problems? or try again. I can login to all other of my services. Mail, billpayer, yadda yadda yadda…I started a TCP dump and this is what I found.
Yahoo YMSG Messenger Protocol
Version: 0
Packet Length: 40
Service: YAHOO_SERVICE_AUTHRESP (84)
Status: Unknown (4294967295)
Session ID: 0xa51574a5
Content: 1: _wingman_
66: ERROR: Invalid UserAll the packets before this were normal as I compared them to another known good account which logs in okay. Can anything parse this any closer or have any idea why I can’t login with my normal account? Problem started today. Email is in to my contact at Yahoo!. This one has me stumped. I have a full dump if anyone wants it.

MemberOh yea, more info to chew on. No other client can log me in. Trillian, Cheeta, YahELite, or the normal http://chat.yahoo.com.
Nothing gives me a visible error, except YahELite, which essentially gives me the same Unknown User message. I’ve updated Yahoo to the beta revision, still nogo. The Web Messenger doesn’t work either.
Trillian comes back with:
*** Creating connection “_wingman_”
*** Error logging into Yahoo: Unknown error 0.
*** Reconnecting to Yahoo as “_wingman_”.
*** Will attempt 10 connections with 60 second intervals.
*** Connecting to Yahoo as “_wingman_”, attempt #1.
*** Error logging into Yahoo: Unknown error 0.I’m not sure why the guys at Trillian couldn’t decode an “Unknown User” content error. So, I’m still confused. What’s going on?

Memberdid it work before you created this “unknown state”?
because. no matter what you think you did……
you have a standard error there…..
thats the. oops you werent logged all the way out / were booted/ or were just messing too much with yahoo and triggered the anti-bot heuristics……the main sign of this? you can access all but chat.. mail etc……
if it was a true yahoo screw up or hack…… you would have access to nada….but save the dump.. i may have a yahoo who wants to look at it lol. and see what you did to trigger it. it might help stop some of the lock outs….

MemberYes, it had been working just fine before this weird state. I tested the login side by side with another known good client (I just created) and the unknown status may just be a dynamically created “thing” Yahoo uses. Either that or it doesn’t seem to be part of the issue. I waited about 8 hours and I’m still locked out. Same error messages as before.
The error appears to be standard, however it’s incorrect. I’ve been a yahoo user since 1997 with this account and it’s part of the Yahoo!/SBC DSL initiative. There’s no reason why it would stop working all of the sudden. I didn’t trigger anything anti-bot as I was sitting idle at the time it knocked me off at work the first time. I can’t be “booted” as I don’t use a client that is limited by overflows or bad coding. The only thing I can think of is that I need to get to work and see if I can somehow “unset” the weird away state that may exist.
I believe when you authenticate to Yahoo Services as a whole, it’s a different process than just logging into Messenger. I doubt a global company such as Yahoo is going to have it’s most vulnerable/visible services (chat) running in the same STATE (yes, literal state) as their more premium services. It just doesn’t make security sense.
The dump is recreateable whenever you’d like. I can supply one for a good login of a known good account and my account which is hosed. Like I said, I’ll find out more in about 2 hours.

MemberOkay, I’m back at work now. Trillian wasn’t running and the away state was cleared at logoff time according to my logs. Yahoo, however was running in the background and I imagine it was trying to relog me back in for some time. I don’t know if messenger attempts to auto-login after an error has been detected. I still have no idea what’s wrong with the account. I got the standard reply from Yahoo Services and I sent them a response with the confirmation info. Maybe this will unlock the account. *shrug*

Memberumm dude. i asked my yahoo friend…… and she just messaged me….. she says….. your id is locked until the 9th… she says you did some wacky stuff and got a big time ban……
…which is why you are locked up… and each attempt now to log in is adding…..not what you want to hear.. but i did try to get it cleared.. cant. you got a big ol’ ban…..

MemberWell, I am having this same exact problem. I attempted to log in using the actual Yahoo client, and it said my account had been deactivated for security reasons. I went ahead and reactivated the account, and it worked with the actual Yahoo client. Attempted to log back in using Trillian, and boom. Deactivated it again. Have they found a way to tell you’re using Trillian, thereby disabling your account?
June 18, 2003 at 10:01 pm #62010Johnson
MemberNot deactivated for security reasons, disabled, this means someone has tried to login your id, once or 10 times and or that even u messed up your password one time possibly. _wingman_ is a rare, he should be careful or yahoo will deactivate his account without even thinking twice, i don’t use my rares any more had over 600 of them get deactivated, and they are still deactivating them at random. I have heard that if you have a static ip, some people who have used more then one id have gotten them deactivated, but I know a lot of others who use more then one and haven’t really had any problems.

MemberThen do you think you could help me figure out why I can’t log in with Trillian, but I can with Yahoo client?
June 19, 2003 at 1:54 am #62007Nhyrvana
Memberjaeron…. i asked my yahoo buddies….. since your issue is diff than wingmans….. and they said…
Quote:quote:some things trillian does tend to set off our spam protectiongreat. ill see what else i can find out….. are you on regular trillian or trillian pro?
i will suggest NOT using an id on trillian that you currently have in a chat room…. i have had no probs so FAR with 3 accounts on trillian and a fourth in chat…. but i am pushing my luck there…..what operating system, firewall, etc…. maybe we can find a common denominator here that might be the issue….. * at one point a certain version of ie installed caused all browser chat to appear BACKWARDS* so you never know what may be the actual cause….
you might also go see if there is any info over on the trillian board https://bigblueball.com/forums/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=33 or the forums on the trillian site…… http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/forums/
perhaps they have some insight…..
if not they will atleast see if they can duplicate the error to fix it…May 7, 2005 at 7:10 am #62016kanak
MemberHi,
This is a similar problem but bit weird. I have two machines of exactly same configuration. I could log in to YM from one machine without any problem. From the other machine, whenever I try to log in, it logs me in, display’s new message dialog and Hangs – Only way is to re-boot the machine. This problem is not only with my login with others also. But same logins work without any problem in the other machine.
I tried virus cleanup, format and re-install, changing RAM, contacting Yahoo but nothing helped. Finally, I downloaded Ethereal dumped the conversations from a third machine to look at good and bad session. What I found is YAHOO_SERVICE_AUTHRESP with known status (1515563605) with the problem machine not with the other one. Ethereal dump is available for both sessions.
Appreciate your help on this.
Regards,
