MemberI have released Y!Amp M8, which is designed to work on Yahoo! Messenger 8 beta. Hopefully if Yahoo doesn’t change much from the beta to full, it’ll still work. Y!Amp is a program that shows what song you’re listening to in Winamp in your Yahoo! Messenger status, and can also send what you’re listening to in PM’s and chat rooms. It also comes with an automatic updater, so if there’s a critical update or big improvement, you’ll always know when it’s out. ASCII is allowed and works well, but the headphones and fake idle packet codes no longer work.
I know Yahoo! Messenger 8 has a plugin system, but it apparently uses C++ which I am not very familiar with yet. I will try to see what I can do later on though.
Features:
– Automatically send what you’re listening to straight to chat or friends’ IM’s!
– Program can open on Windows startup hidden
– 9 awesome ASCII status presets
– Put a message before and after the song/artist
– Supports ASCII characters
– Can be hidden away into taskbar
– Draggable interface
– Small filesize
– Free!

MemberThanks 🙂
I didn’t really want to have to go through having to figure out what Yahoo changed now and all of that, but people were complaining on my site going “why doesn’t it work on Yahoo! Messenger 8!?!?!?” haha. Plus it feels good being the first one to have this done on Messenger 8. 😎

MemberI got the fake idle and headphones icon working again for Yahoo! Messenger 8 beta 🙂

I also put in an option to have Y!Amp open on Windows startup so you don’t have to keep opening it when you start Winamp & Yahoo! So if you close Y!Amp while it’s minimized, and restart your computer, it’ll open up automatically but will be minimized so there’s no annoyance. 🙂

MemberOh, I definately want to see this ported as a Yahoo 8 plugin. Nick, perhaps you should ask the creator of HyperIM for help with the C++ code conversion? I’m sure he’d help you.

MemberDid you used Visual Basic to create Y!Amp ? … Y!MPlus is designed with VB6 . And Y!MPlus 1.8 will available as open-source. Survey SourceForge ;o)
Perhaps could you add Y!Amp features into Y!Pilot (Y!MPlus systray tool) :op

MemberKingsofChaos – Actually I don’t think he will help, at least not with how he did his version of changing the Yahoo! Status (it doesn’t use the registry at all). However converting to C++ probably wouldn’t be too hard, I’ve found some sites that go step by step with it, but I’m just not interested in doing that since I don’t know C++ too well anyway.
oliezekat – Yes I did use VB6, that’s pretty cool, I’ll look into it when it’s up on SF.
