ParticipantSorry….

I am now getting this from my buddy…
wtf??
I get this while using Yahoo through Trillion.July 22, 2002 at 12:41 am #67873bushwick
MemberJust means that Trillian does not fully support HTML script right now, and the code is for colored text, if used improperly it could actually boot someone off of Yahoo messenger.

ParticipantThanks! 🙂
Hmmm..seems Trillian is not all that great. But it is fun to play with :p

ParticipantActually, it is really great!!
It is good not to support HTML because it blocks bootings. But then it also blocks faders.
It’s the best one out there. Don’t let one thing change your mind!!___________________________________

Trillian is planning to release a “Next-Generation” Trillian anytime now! Should be MUCH better than the current version. I can’t wait! *starts jumping up and down in her chair*

MemberYou can almost bet, that Trillian is going to shoot themselves in the foot with the new release. They are going to turn away from what makes them good right now, to cater to other people’s laziness.
Check out my post on security vs convience in another forum and you’ll know what I am talking about.

Memberbushwick.
I undestand what you are saying, however I’m prepared to wait and see what the ‘next generation’ will bring, maybe, just maybe as in the past with other attemps to ‘be all things to all people’ we will simply yawn and go back to sleep.
Some users seem to want chat rooms with the ability to boot anyone, IM’s they can act out a fantasy and not be discovered, spoofing, booting, war tools, flooders and stealth ability. Others simply the ability to chat, send a offline message n maybe a file once in a while. where is the middle line?rustedtight

MemberMy thought is this, IM’s were originally designed to send plain ASCII messages from one user to another. I don’t really care what they are doing at the home or office, I don’t need a explaination “BRB – I am going to take a leak out in the neigbors bushes”.
I don’t need to see someone’s stupid bouncing animated gif, this went away with the model T didn’t it?
I don’t need to see when someone is getting around to responding my message: “[So and so is] typing a moronic reply to your senseless message…” I figure either they reply or they don’t no big deal either way.
I’ve already discussed why I thought file transfers were an idioitic idea so I won’t re-hash those thoughts again.
Why can’t we just go back to old school text messaging? It would eliminate a good portion of the computer intrusion attempts that go unreported by corporate america and private individuals each and every year.

MemberWell yes, you dribbled a bib full there but would it turn heads in downtown suburbansville? I would like to return to those simple times also. Not sure that it will happen anytime real soon now tho.

MemberI think I am going sit here and code a ‘no frills’ Instant Messenger that does just that:
NO Buddy Icons
NO File Transfers
NO Web Cam Support
NO Message NotificationThat supports AOL/AIM (TOC of course), MSN, Yahoo, ICQ (If I have to support OSCAR for this, fine I’ll do so) and add Jabber as well.
Then maybe I’ll quit complaining about how horrible the commercial products really are. 🙂

MemberDee,
I tossed that idea to Jeff, about making a BigBlueBall.com exclusive client that had all the above mentioned features (or the seriously lack thereof). If people are interested in a ‘3B Instant Messenger’ and would use it, I would take the time to steal (sorry Ryan, had to do it buddy! lol)…..errrr build one and have people test it.
Just for the record, anything I create would not be called ‘3B’ or would be endorsed by any moderator or administrator of BigBlueBall.com UNLESS I built it from scratch, AND they approved of the product.

KeymasterMaybe it should be called “Old School IM”
But aren’t you forgetting the IRC client? There are some real advantages to the no-frills approach. It’s like with cars; fewer gadgets and doo-dads means fewer things that can break!

MemberIf you want an IRC client as well, I guess I could throw one together :sigh:.
