MemberI assume you are talking about AIM/AOL? To my knowledge, I do not know of this being currently possible.
Dragon31
MemberJust doing a followup. Was the problem fixed? What were your end results?
Dragon31
MemberAre any other programs able to connect besides AIM? If not, then it is probably a connection problem.

MemberHi jfann1,
If you did not already do so, try reinstalling AIM.
Dragon31
MemberCheck that you have your pop-up blocker disabled and try again. Also, it might use ActiveX (I’m not really sure, haven’t been there in a while), so try enabling that too.
Dragon31
MemberNo prob. In my opinion, no anti-virus service is better or worse (although there are some are just plain crap, lol). Each have it’s advantages and disadvantages, so I can not really suggest which one is better. Both (in my opinion) are good.
Anyway, I am glad to hear the problem is solved. But before signing back on using AIM, I really do suggest you create a new account and (if you know how to) renew your IP address. If you don’t, you are very much at risk at getting hijacked again. You can also save your buddylist if you use AIM, so getting all your buddies back shouldn’t be too hard.

MemberSame here… You can never be too sure.

MemberNp! Glad I (and Gragonreborn) could help.

MemberHey Sunshine,
If none of those viurs/spyware scanners works, I sugguest you try one of the following links to an online viurs scanning service:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm
http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php
http://us.mcafee.com/root/runapplication.asp?appid=73I got these off google. Try doing a scan with a few of these. If this is really a trojan, one of those is bound to catch it. Post the results here and I will take a look at them and guide you through fixing the problem (if the anti-virus does not fix it for you).
As for your problem with getting so many hack attempts… I too face this problem. Unfortunatly, I do not know how to solve this problem for you. All I can recommend is that you keep your computer sercurtiy heavy.

MemberYou there? Did my directions solve the problem?

MemberHey Technis. I’d be happy to help you out with your AIM problem. Did you make sure that you were not accidentally added to her block list? Tell her to try checking her current block list and make sure you are not on it. I’d also recommended that both of you take a look at your AIM settings. A problem like this could be caused from AIM privacy settings (such as “allow only people on my buddy list to see me”).

MemberSorry! What I ment to type was; do not do what he sugguested. Thank goodness you didn’t do that. I should be more carefull when editing my posts as of not to delete any words by actident…
Anyway, now back to the problem. If you have forgotten the trojans you had, you can access your AV log. Many times it automaticlly saves your log. I do not know what anti-virus program you have, but it usually explains how to do retrieve it in the help file.
Changing (edit: renewing) your IP would be a good idea, as well as changing your e-mail and AIM screen name. All this would prevent this person from hijacking you again. Once someone knows your IP, it is easy from them to infect your computer again. Thus, changing it would prevent this. I also reccommend that you try reinstalling ZoneAlarm. After you download it, go offline and then install it (so you won’t be unprotected for even a secound)Your firewall should be catching all these trojans, so it may have gotten crupted due to viruses. Reinstalling might fix it, but I do not know for sure.
As for reinstalling your OS or hardrive… It is really up to you. If you have important documents on your hardrive and are worried that they will be stolen, you may want to consider this. But I can not make this decision for you.
If your anti-virus program was unable to remove the trojans, try going into safe mode (safe mode without networking) and running a scan.
If none of this helps, feel free to request more help.
By the way, I am not a professional. Anyone feel free to correct me if I have explained anything wrong. This is off of my studies and understanding. I won’t be insulted if you do… And nscopex, I never said you were wrong. Your (from what I see so far) as good with this as anyone around here. I’m just trying to help based off of my understanding.

Click on “go” and a window should come up saying “Virus scan” or “securtiy check”. I’ve used both these services and think they work really well. Should get rid of your problem. If not, let me know and I can walk you through on how to fix it.
Dragon31
MemberI recommend that you do not what he sugguested. Deleting some of these things (for example; registry keys) can really mess up your computer.
Edit: sorry! Edting mistake… word “not” was actidently removed when I edited this post before… do NOT do what he said as it may mess up your computer.

MemberOkay, I did a bit of more reseach. I went to a securtiy website and found something on Server.exe. Server.exe is actually very much related to some AOL trojans. My advice would be to do a virus scan (like I suggusted before) and eliminate this viurs(es). Many of the ones it came up with were hijacking viruses and some spy viruses (all AIM-related) when I did a search… So theres your problem. You most likely have one of those. Good luck and I hope everything goes well! Keep us informed of the results. If you need any more help, feel free to ask me.
