MemberWell at this point your not going to get very far with y!
they have done something to screw up trillian.I saw in the article at BBB’s front page that trillian dev’s are working hard to fix the problem.

If Yahoo! suddenly add another 3 platforms, I would predict more than 3 times the errors, and not something of a sufficient quality to pay for.
Just stick to the basic Trillian if that’s your thing.

MemberPeronsally I don’t like the dial home idea for that exact reason, if the server is down, no trill…. then are we going to load MSN/Y!/AIM/ICQ/IRC and Jabber all on just to connect to our contacts until the server comes up. Defeats the purpose. I understand the need to protect themselves against software piracy but what would it be like it windows XP had to ‘dial home’ in order to boot? Or the Pentium V chip had to authenticate with intel in order to start the computer. Once you pay for it, put the liscense in it, and go already.
Here is another respective. You have some corporations that block at the firewall a lot of traffic to cut down on recent viral attacks and to keep the people working, not chatting on their IM. Many of these companies (mine included) do allow certain mediums such as AOL/ICQ and Yahoo, but block most everything else. If the ports from the admin level are blocked, there defeats anyone from purchasing trillian for their use at work since it won’t authenticate and thus won’t start. As an admin I don’t have to worry about blocking as I can get through that, but most of our employees may not be able to (just one company perspective here) I got trill for the use of it’s Jabber (since we have our own jabber server) as well as other mediums but the idea of calling home I think is more trouble then it’s worth.
Just my 2 cents. Nothing more.
Quote:quote:Originally posted by carbonizeYes I can still log on to the website even though my account was started on 11-9-02. I still say that the dialling home is a bad idea as it is putting increased pressure on Ceruleans servers and, as has already happened once, if their servers go down nobody can start Trillian.
In regards to the MSN buddy icon thingy in systray alerts you will also see it when you do a mouse over on their name in the list and in the message box if you have the buddyicon holder visible. You can set an MSN buddy icon for yourself using the buddy icon in preferences. If you view a users webcam on Yahoo the last picture gets used as a buddy icon for Yahoo or if you wish you can actually set a picture to be used for a buddy.

OH and also I found another skin with three flavors
Luna
Luna Metalika
Media Center EditionIt’s really nice and it’s made for 2.0 – but I have no idea where to find it other than the taboo site. I can download it and give it to someone if they need it but if anyone knows who made this silly thing and can find a safer URL for it…that would be nice.

MemberGreat tip Jim, thanx. I don’t use IRC (firewall issues) but I’m sure this will help someone.
I do something similar with buddies. That’s sort of what I was refering to as buddy pouncing. I think it was GAIM that calls it buddy pouncing. And no, I don’t use GAIM on my windows machine so please no one start flaming me …LOL!!!
Quote:Originally posted by quietbritishjimThere are some cool events in 2.0, now that it has variables. For example you can do a nick alert thingy, a feature of many IRC clients. First set up word matching to trigger an event when you get your name e.g. I chose “Jim” on IRC only (message only, otherwise it would go off with every message I send). Next make that event a systray alert event with alert text “Nick Alert – %address%
%message%” (without the quotes) and action “Default Message Send”. Try it yourself and see what happens!drake2k
MemberAnd of course today proved me completly wrong and had to change the sc5 back to scs… Oh well… The port 80 thing still works through my firewall though. 😉 …sometimes

MemberHi, My name is Drake, and I’m a trill-a-holic.
This is as good a place as any, my little work around for Yahell’s issues. This works for a few others AIM/ICQ I think…
Today I got an error code 0 and could not connect to Yahoo. After fiddling with it for about 30 minutes I got it to work… in doing so I pulled up a command prompts and did the following
Code:ping csc.yahoo.comI got a time out. For some reason I was not able to communicate with the yahoo server that is configured in Trillian. So then I opened up yahoo’s java version of it’s messenger. (you can do this by going to http://messenger.yahoo.com and clicking on ‘launch yahoo! web messenger beta) then did this command at the dos prompt…
Code:netstatin one of the lines I saw this
Code:cs62.msg.sc5.yahoo.com:5050So I knew I was connecting to yahoo, but not the csc.yahoo.com as it should be. So I went into the preferences of my yahoo connection and changed the csc.yahoo.com to cs5.yahoo.com and left the port to 5050 and presto…it works
Here is a trick I did when my company decided they did not want any instant messenger traffic. It worked for Y! AIM and ICQ but not MSN, did not try w/ Jabber cause my jabber is internal.
In the connection preferences of each medium I changed the port number to 80. Some of these guys allow connecting at that port -don’t ask why. Port 80 is just your standard http traffic (such as going to http://www.bigblueball.com) so most firewalls allow port 80 traffic. Presto.
Did ANY of that make sense??
Thanx for letting me share!
:rolleyes:drake2k
MemberHey Sparks, did Ceruleanstudios have to purchase a liscense from MicroShaft to be able to use the MSNP9? I was reading on the Gaim website (sort of like trillian for linux) that MS would be require it…
http://gaim.sourceforge.net/msn.php <– reference.
Quote:quote:Originally posted by SparksWe’re working on the MSN6 display pics. It’s just taking a little while to decipher. Trillian Pro 2.0 does use MSNP9, the MSN Messenger 6 version of the protocol, but we haven’t yet deciphered all the new packets and suchnot. 🙂

MemberQuote:quote:Originally posted by komado not advice you to download it now because it have a lot of bugs and not all features are working
Not sure how you work out the bugs if no one uses it. As stated in another sticky thread, It is not recommended for mission critical usage but for everyday life it is. As R.Blackmon trillian dev stated in her live journal, the more people the get using the 2.0 now, the more they can hammer out the details (not exact verbaige).

– trillian 1.0 does not understand unicode, so if you message from 2.0 to 1.0, user on 1.0 does not see your messagesEh? I don’t know much about unicode but I do know about 65% of my contacts are 1.0 users, I’m messeging them now and i’m on 2.0. Is that what you mean?

MemberYou have no idea how STUPID I feel, especially since I work in the IT department of a larg corp… (no I’m not telling which on either LOL)
Thank you. Double clicked worked like a charm. I actually had re-installed the program in the same directory to no avail, it retained settings, then installed it into another directory and it worked fine (different settings). However I was delighted to try your advise and see that it worked and I dont’ have to go through and change all my settings in the new install and can just delete that.
I did not try to imply that the jabber had anything to do with my problem (docking) only that the skins for 1.0 don’t accomodate for them. Sorry for the confusion. The docking thing was wierd in what it did to IE. It did the same thing to outlook as well but a simple move worked fine for that. My screen is at 1152×864 and the docked trill was on the right taking about 15 – 20% of the screen. It’s when I turned off docking that I had the problem. Hopefully it will clear up in the actual release, personally I don’t use docking but I can’t leave well enough alone and I like to test out ALL functions of the program.
Again, thanx for the help with the double click ….(feels sheepish)

MemberThe default skin is fine, the XP one a bit better and many more that I really liked from 1.0, any skin that I’ve tried will work, mostly. I’m a jabber user however and the 1.0 skins did not have accomodations for that plugin. When using xp or whatever it will tell me that it’s trying to clone the AIM scins but the connection button on the bottom that show the different mediums does not have the jabber, so it’s a bit hard to join conferences and such that way.
The default works fine of course but I”m having a bit o’ trouble with that right now in that when I was using the ‘docking’ feature of trillian it shrunk my chat/conference rooms down to nothing but a blue bar and nothing I tried can bring it back. Ironicly enough it did the same thing to internet explorer however it turned IE into nothing but a VERY thin line. I went from trying to move it, to trying to edit the registry default window opening size, the only time I could see it was maximized but when you minimiz it, it vanished to a super thin line. I discovered I can hover my mouse over it and when it became a double arrow I could resize it finally. However that does not work on the chat/conference room. So now I have to re-install trill 2.0 for that to work again (and I hope it will work after that so wish me luck)
Something to looking into for the dev team eh sparks?
BTW, that’s for keeping us in the loop on your journal.
