Memberi’m telling you to switch to a different browser. IE stinks. And even if IE isn’t the problem, your computer isn’t secure as it could be when you’re using it. Download Opera, Mozilla, or Firefox. They’re all VERY secure, and can be customized to just about any of your internet surfing needs.

MemberIE isn’t very secure, try firefox.

Memberok… comet cursors is full of spyware. First, try running your Anti-spyware/Adware removal programs. If those don’t work, try running a Norton scan. If THAT doesn’t work, go to the sys. files folder, click on the comet cursors folder, hold Shift+Delete. That bypasses the recycle bin. It’s worked everytime for me. If nothing works, then try a system restore….
next time you wanna install something like that, read their privacy statement, the license agreement, and the terms you have to accept before downloading the software. Somewhere in those long drawn-out paragraphs, the comet cursor people HAVE to tell you that they’re putting 3rd party software on you comp with their own software.

MemberAd-Aware SE has been out for a few months now. And Ad-Aware itself has been around for a while too. My guess is that ICQ got infected w/ something, similar thing happened to my WMP and I had to uninstall it then get another version…

Memberwhat browser are you using? If you have the SBC Yahoo browser working on an older computer, running an older OS, the same thing happens. Try a Mozilla product such as firefox or mozilla. I’ve never experienced the problem you’re describing w/ those 2 browsers!

Memberok. Thank you so much… the downloading process and my homeowork is going to take a few hours I think (i’m surprised @ how slow the files are downloading, i’ve got DSL. I know that its not going to be instant, but I figured it’d be faster…)

Memberwell i’m doing homework in the office w/ the new comp while the files download. But I don’t remember any “press F1” or anything. When I boot the comp “Compaq Presario” comes up in big red letters, then it does some stuff, then the comp loads everything. But then again, I havent turned my old comp on in a while… so i’ll check when i’m ready to install everything… but please go on w/ your instructions, i’m using you as my guide lol!

Membersorry, I dont know how to get to the bios… i’m not good @ messing w/ the system, and everything I know, i’m a complete novice @…

Memberok, i’m in the process of downloading the files now. Do I need to make another partition on my old computer, or will Fedora do it for me. And once I finish downloading and burning everything, I know that I need to boot the comp from my disc… how do I do that?
FirefoxMan
Memberok, so what exactly should I download… I’m kind of confused on which files I need… College Linux has caught my eye, and so has Fedora. But they require multiple files for download…

Memberthanks for the info, you’re making this SO much easier. Yes our computers are connected through a network. but can I still network my comp w/ linux, it’s connected through SBC Yahoo right now? I really don’t know how much RAM my comp has… I believe the guy who fixed upped the RAM to 256, but i’m not sure. I’ve got an 80 gig hard drive, so I should be safe there

Memberi’m perfectly fine w/ deleting all the crap on my old comp. It was destroyed by a virus, and loaded w/ Adware and Spyware (before we even knew adware and spyware existed). So we just had a guy kinda rebuild it. It’s still rather slow compared to our new computer, so I dont use the old one much. and all I have on our old comp is IM applications. I’ve just always wanted to use Linux, but never had the chance since we have a relatively new computer now. And i’d like to use our old computer since my dad fixed it up for ME. this month’s PopSci said that Linux was a great way to revitalize an old computer, so I think that Linux would be the way to go.
Won’t Linux run faster and smoother than Win98 b/c it’s lighter (if i’m wrong, correct me. I’m just making an assumption)?
EDIT: if you’re wondering why i’m leaning towards Suse, it’s because it’s cheap, and you can buy the disk. I dunno how to set partitions on my comp or make a boot disk. I do know that Red Hat is available to buy too…

Memberhm… my friend is having the EXACT same problem. He is also wirelessly connected through SBC Yahoo DSL. Now that you’ve experienced the same problem, I’m starting to think it has to do w/ the wireless connection. We’ve got SBC Yahoo @ our house too, but its not a wireless network, and AIM works fine. I’ll look into this…

Memberi’ve had a similar problem. If the comp you’ve got in your hands is a Dell, there should be a resource CD lying around somewhere… Insert that resource CD and then run a re-install of XP. Hope that helps.
