There are a lot of members that come here, post once and then leave. Maybe there should be a guest forum? If they have a question they would say the name of the messenger in front. Like this: AIM:(question here). I think this would be good because we have an insane amount of members and half of them have only posted once. The bad thing though is that some guests could go insane…you moderators would have some work to do :-/. Instead of having to sign up, people could post a quick question and get an answer. I’m not sure if it would work though…sometimes the guests might post random stuff that doesn’t have anything to do with IMing. Once again it might be hard work for the moderators…

Just a thought…December 2, 2004 at 3:14 am #106876DavidParticipantBut is there -really- anything wrong with the current system? It’s much easier for us staff to manage accounts because everything is verified, a “guest” system would cause spamming to skyrocket.
December 2, 2004 at 4:18 am #106882QuiksilverMemberIt is possible to have the guest forum be the only one where guests can actually post….
December 2, 2004 at 4:24 am #106877DavidParticipantBut why? What’s so bad about the current system?
December 2, 2004 at 5:29 am #106881AwesomeSauceParticipantLike dragonroborn said, lots of people join, post once, and leave. Maybe it wouldn’t waste unused resources if we had a guest forum?
December 2, 2004 at 5:43 am #106880Dr KimbleParticipantThey may “leave” after a question is answered, but this is a forum. Forums move at an individual’s pace. Members post when they can and don’t when they don’t. Even if they come for one answer, who’s to say they won’t come back. When I was newer here I didn’t come all too often, I came when I had an IM question, later I discovered the off topic community sections, so I came back and back and back…
We don’t want to shun anyone because they only come for help once or twice, that is what BBB is all about. Giving useful help so members DO come back 😉
December 2, 2004 at 1:14 pm #106879MartinBradleyMemberI have to agree with Dave. On my forums, I only have one forum open to guests, and that is the Board Help forum.
I think it would encourage spamming, and also, if a person did have a serious question to ask, then they would take the time to join up.
Plus, I don’t think the current registration system is a big annoyance, its quick and simple.

In all honesty, the database space taken up by one forum post is about as much as is taken up by one unused user account. dragonreborn, I value your suggestion, but this will cause an extreme extra workload for the moderators. Not only will we constantly have to move threads, we will also open the gates to all spammers around the globe.
December 2, 2004 at 2:36 pm #106884tim776MemberPerhaps an account could expire if it has not been used for a certain period of time.

But why? Why does everyone suddenly assume we are running low on server resources? It isn’t that way.
December 2, 2004 at 9:38 pm #106883QuiksilverMemberIt was…you know just a suggestion. I didn’t say the current system wasn’t working…there just wouldn’t be as many members that don’t participate if you know what I mean. Members are usually the ones that participate and post more than once. I realize it opens the door to spammers and that it would be a hard job for the moderators…I just think it might be a good idea…
December 2, 2004 at 10:16 pm #106878shifterMemberA good suggestion, however in my opinion the negatives strongly outweigh the positives. But it’s always great to hear members ideas, don’t be discouraged.
