so will the rest of us not upgrading to vista and only have XP? will we never get avatar support between the 2?
I’m holding my fingers for the AIM + Google Talk deal to finally work out.
What I also want is for Avatar compatibility between WLM & Y!M… but would I be correct that won’t happen until Windows Vista’s build for Yahoo! Messenger?
That’s great and all… but when will we get word on the interoperability that was supposed to occur between AIM and GTalk?? 🙁

Yeah I tried AIM Pro… glad it did’nt install over AIM 5.9 or Triton. I love the no ads thing and it does seem cleaner and scrisper than Triton… but no buddy icons. That may seem like no big deal, but when they came out in ’99, I fliped. I love icons/avatars and not being able to use them in AIM Pro just ruined it for me
I too had this problem the day I was trying to configure GTalk…
if you listen to the most recent Big Blue Ball podcast, the guys mention that the transporter that was used in the instructions on how to set up PSI and GTalk was overloaded and had to be shut down to those without a Jabber ID.
You can (as I did) search around for different transporters @ http://www.jabber.org/network/oldnetwork.shtml#geeks
My advice? Don’t even mess with it. It is a very buggy hack and more of a headache than not. Once AIM and GTalk can actually communicate that will be a sweet sweet day! I LOVE how you can set up GTalk’s interface to be bubble-ish like iChat (but alas I have a PC) but the set up is very iffy. You end up signing up for multiple transports for multiple AIM or MSN accounts… and then you have many duplicates in your contact list under different transporters. It truly is a headache…
I’d suggest going with GAIM, Trillian, or AIM Adhack.
i would try to run various versions of AIMutation (even recently) with 5.5 and it ALWAYS gave me a headache. anybody know which model of 5.2 is best?
my only advice would be to:
1) reinstall aimutation from a new source (or get a newer/older version)… try http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Chat/Instant-Messaging/AIMutation.shtml2) visit OldVersion.com and head to the AOL Instant Messenger catagory and download a different version of AIM … you can try 5.5, which was always a favorite of mine, OR check out different releases of 5.2 that may be different from the one you have.
AIM Adhack for 5.9 is also always very useful if you want to use a Classic AIM without the bloating 5.9 contains naturally… http://aftermath.dyndns.org:8888/~aimadhack/
