MemberWe found a PC where it happens and have it fixed there, so hopefully it will work for everyone in the next version. It appears that it may be a Windows bug that for an unknown reason only occurs on some PCs. Thanks for doing those tests!
MisterEd
MemberNever mind on the chat (it happens there too).
MisterEd
MemberTo go into a chat room just by yourself, right-click your SN in your Buddy List and choose Buddy Chat (or send yourself an IM and then choose Buddy Chat from the People menu).
MisterEd
MemberActually one more thing to try:
1.) Turn on the “Log Chats” option in the IM Logging category of AIM
Settings.
2.) Go into a buddy chat room (you can just right-click your SN in your Buddy List and choose Buddy Chat… or send yourself an IM and then choose Buddy Chat from the People menu).
3.) Send a message in the chat room.
4.) Choose the Show Logs menu item from the chat window’s People menu (or press Ctrl-h).It would be good to know if that chat test fails as well, or if the problem only occurs for IM logs.
MisterEd
MemberStrange… glad the old plugin works for you at least. Maybe the AIM developers can figure something out from this to get it fixed in a future client.

Member2 more things to try:
– Go to Logging Settings and choose a different logging directory (maybe just choose C: to make it really basic).
– Install the old JAMS plugin package (web.archive.org/web/20061110200146/http://www.aim.com/triton/license.adp?aolp=0&download=gadgets). All you need is the EZLogger portion. After installing it, turn on the IM logging by clicking the Commands menu next to EZLogger in the Plugins Settings of AIM. Now you will have 2 logging menu items when you right-click a buddy; try choosing the new one named “Show IM Logs” after IM’ing someone. This will at least show whether a bug was introduced in the last year since the feature was moved from a plugin to part of the AIM code itself.

MemberHmm… what is your default browser set to?
Whatever it is set to, can you try changing it (if you just have IE installed, try temporarily installing Firefox and setting it as your default… if you have Firefox as your default, change it to IE by choosing the “check to see whether it is the default browser” in the Programs tab of IE’s settings and then restarting IE). Not to say you need to keep it like that, but could help in troubleshooting.

MemberYes, I’m able to get logs working on 2K, XP, and Vista.
I asked about launching the Read Mail / ad features just since those also spawn your browser.
Can you try signing on as a different Screen Name and see if logs are working with that?
Also you don’t have more than one “Show logs” item in the menu, do you?
One more thing: Select a buddy (who has logs) in the Buddy List and then press Ctrl-h, which is the keyboard shortcut for viewing logs.
MisterEd
MemberCan you try choosing the Read Mail item from the AIM menu on the Buddy List? I wonder if maybe all URLs launched from AIM are broken for you? (Since AIM will try to open your default browser when you choose Show Logs for a buddy who you have logs for.)
Also try clicking an ad from the Buddy List since that is probably launched differently than the URL-based menu items.
If either of those fail to work, maybe you have a popup blocker or something similar which is preventing it.
Also any chance you can narrow down exactly which version of AIM it broke in? The logging method was completely changed from AIM 6.0 to 6.1.
You may also want to disable any extra plugins you installed (in the Plugins category of AIM Settings).
