MemberNo luck. When I view the Power Management configuration, it doesn’t actually give me the option to turn it off. It only has a checkbox to select default setting and a slider bar to select lowest to highest.
If this is in fact a Yahoo server issue, why aren’t more people experiencing it?
nickp001
MemberActually, I first experienced this with the previous build. I installed the latest build hoping that it would fix the problem. Needless to say, it didn’t work.
If it were a server issue, wouldn’t we see more complaints about it?

MemberHi Doris,
I really do appreciate your help on this.
To answer your questions:
Yes, this is in fact a laptop that I’m having the problem with. I have another laptop that I think I’ll try it on. I’ll also try it on my wife’s desktop and see what happens.
As far as not having a problem while chatting, I can be on the computer performing normal tasks and logged on to Yahoo IM, but not doing anything with it and Yahoo will sign me off and right back on. In other words, Yahoo is idle, but my computer isn’t.
When it happens, I appear to still have my normal wireless connection and internet access, Microsoft Messenger stays signed on, and Outlook appears to be connected and receiving email. As far as I can tell, it’s just Yahoo that has the problem.
Are there any specific logs that you can suggest I look at? Like I said before, the Windows Event Viewer shows absolutely nothing out of the ordinary.
I really hate wasting your time with this, but it’s good to know that there’s people out there so willing to help.

MemberI am using a LinkSys router. I have already tried turning off the Windows Firewall and that didn’t fix the problem. My router doesn’t seem to have a firewall built in, although I should look further into it. But I don’t see any firewall configuration settings in the router configuration pages.
I’ve confirmed that the router time and daylight savings settings are correct.
Prior to this happening, I had Vista installed. I wasn’t happy with it so a couple of weeks ago I re-installed everything and went back to XP SP2. That is when I started having the problem. I wasn’t using Yahoo IM when I had Vista installed, so I really don’t know if it worked then or not. Now I wish that I had at least tried it.
I understand what you’re saying about the whole wireless thing, but I don’t think that’s the case. I have an excellent signal almost always. I keep getting booted in exactly 10 minute intervals. It’s like clockwork. And like Bakdoor said, if I’m chatting, no problem, I can stay on all day. But when I’m idle, every ten minutes I get booted. Also, Microsoft Messenger works just fine without any disconnects.
Thanks again for your help. I’m one of those people that won’t give up until I find the problem. The funny thing is that I’ve worked in the software industry for almost 12 years and I can’t figure out something that, on the surface, appears to be so simple.

MemberHi Doris,
Nope, nothing in the event log. This is mind boggling. I found several similar complaints in the LinkSys forums and several people suggested setting port triggering and re-adjusting the MTU to something below 1400. That also didn’t solve the problem. I’m still thinking it has something to do with either my wireless connection or my router, but I really have no idea.
Thanks for your help,

MemberOK, I’ve tried killing all of the non-essential background programs, I uninstalled Messenger and re-installed it and I’m still getting the same problem.
Bakdoor, are you, by any chance, running on a wireless connection or through an access point/router? If so, what brand and model is your router and what version of the firmware are you on?
nickp001
MemberI had the previous version installed and upgraded to the latest version in hopes that it would solve my problem. No luck.
I am using the Windows firewall only. I’ve tried turning off my firewall and my security suite and that didn’t solve the problem.
The strange thing is that it’s happening in exactly 10 minute intervals. There must by some kind of a process that’s running every 10 minutes and killing my connection. Maybe I need to look at the programs that are running in the background.
Frustrating would be an understatement.

MemberI’m having the same problem. I’ve timed it and it disconnects and reconnects exactly every 10 minutes like clockwork. I originally suspected it was my virus protection app, but after disabling it, I continued to experience the same problem. I’ve tried changing my connection settings to firewall with no proxie, but I can’t connect at all with that configuration. Any ideas what would cause a disconnect every 10 minutes?
