Does anyone know if Yahoo Messenger has some sort of “security feature” that blocks a user from joining one of its chat rooms if you try and join a full room too many times?
Tonight, I tried joining a full room by going into a less popular room and typing “/join room:1”. About 20 times later, it stopped giving me the message saying the room was full. I tried logging out and back in, but it still wouldn’t even give the message about the room being full.
I did log into another account and tried accessing a room, and was able to log in just fine. So, does Yahoo have something that blocks those from joining too many times? Perhaps to block bots from joining or something?

I _think_ this is why Yahelite’s knock (which is like an automatic attempt to join a room when it is full) feature extends the time between each knock cycle incrementally.

Yahoo have many filtersing routines to stop abuse of their system
Yahoo do not offer a “knock” feature to enter full rooms.
So naturally they would monitor many trys from one ip and can you ban for doing so.
This will happen too if you try and join too many rooms in quick sucession.

October 14, 2006 at 5:12 pm #153113uptonmMemberyeah i do it all the time, and get banned all the time. the bans generally last about 15 or so minutes I think.
October 14, 2006 at 6:35 pm #153110luckylandinMemberCan this ban also be placed on signing into messenger as well? I have one ID that keeps getting an error msg that says trouble signing in, try again later. My other ID and my hubby’s ID works just fine. I can access email just fine, but just can’t log into messenger. Any suggestions?

October 21, 2006 at 8:17 am #153112squad546MemberI tried joining a room with 28 people and it said it was “full”. I smell yahoo lookin for paying customers soon since they many recent buyouts(its good for their stock points)! This time next year you will have to be a a SBC customer or a moron!

the fact is subscription means yahoo would have to remove the ads from the chat.
at a similar subscription to msn,,,19.99 a yr?
miniscule to the revenue on ads
why i doubt it will happen unless they offer it as both an free and paid service.
