For those of you with voice connection problems and PC’s locking up when attempting to activate voice…..check with your ISP to verify whether they are blocking ports 5000 -5010. I see all the chatter and complaints about Charter blocking these ports. Unfortunately, I too suffer the problem but I am with a different ISP. I have confirmed my suspicions with my local ISP & here is the response I got from their Network Support: “Yes, we are blocking port 5000 because of consistant abuse of the UPnP service used by Windows XP and various home electronics.” Basically, the ISP’s are trying to protect their networks which they have every right to and I (reluctantly) honor their decisions. It seems to me the issue should be addressed by Yahell. Otherwise….maybe a change in IM is in order. If you want to know more about the UPnP problem, I suggest you research GRC.com.
On those few occasions, a trick I found helps is deleting the following files:
?:WINDOWSyac.log
?:Program FilesYahoo!Messengerypager.log
Seems to work for me (for a while anyway)
Are you possibly using YTunnel? Would it be an old version?
