I have Windows XP 2000 Home Edition. (No its not this one, lol)
When I login to an account I get an error saying:
EXPLORER.EXE – APPLICATION ERROR
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.After I press ok, I only get my background. No icons nothing. I can use CTRL-ALT-DELETE and get Task Manager.
I dont have the Windows Cd or anything similar. How can I fix this error without the CD?

I decided to reformat the comp.
When I popin the Windows XP cd i just got. It doesn’t boot automatically. I even try F4 to boot it. Nothing happens. It works fine on this comp?
sounds like a bios problem. try typing “del” (or similar) in the screen where it shows your ram check (during the start up process). it should say “type LALA to enter setup”. once in setup make sure you the drive settings are: floppy>cd>harddrive(the one with windows)>other stuff.
to answer your first question, have you been using any skin programs? it looks like a shell error.
secondly, on system boot, it should have a bit of text somewhere telling you to hit a key to enter setup. press that key and change your primary boot drive to your cd drive.
if you don’t know what your doing, i suggest not to do it but get a friend to create a boot floppy. then boot the system with that.
i have the same problem. i tried everything and it didn’t work. I also didnt put any skin programs. I have a windows xp media center edition though. For some reason, the explorer.exe isnt loading right and Explorer.EXE – Application Error pops up and nothing loads up. Is there anyone that seems to know what the problem is?
ikwonxp, I recommend a repair install of Windows XP using the OEM CD that came with your computer. A repair install replaces the system files with the ones from the CD, including explorer.exe. This also means you will have to reapply Service Pack 2 and any other updates unless they have been slipstreamed into your CD.
