not much of a posting person myself and just chat and play the arcade. it seems that now cannot even do that; thought this was a community for all that enjoyed communicating about what ever and with whomever in the internet world. now it seems that i am being givin a choice, either post or wait for 2 years just to play a game in the arcade. is there a certain criteria that you must meet to be on BBB? not trying to knock BBB for the most part have met some really cool people on here. it seems that a game should be a game not to make being a member it self a game. i should be able to be a community member without having to post a certain amount or be here a certain number of years. i am just here for a little friendly conversation and gaming. could anyone explain why that is so wrong? would like replies whether you agree or not thanks,
den
March 25, 2007 at 7:57 pm #159594Leapy LeoMemberI’ve just tried to pm you about this but your mail box is full again. Most annoying as their doesn’t appear to be a facility for saving unposted messages or anyway of storing it until you clear some room out.
🙁
March 25, 2007 at 8:30 pm #159591TigerbladeParticipantThis isn’t a gaming site, it’s a site dealing with instant messengers (and the occasional random topic, hence our off-topic section). Primarily, this site is home to a forum — a community of people here to discuss issues and questions relevant to instant messaging. The arcade is just a side benefit, a perk of membership to anyone interested in using it as well. It’s not the main attraction, and certainly not this site’s reason for existence.
I don’t think ten posts in the forums is an unreasonable requirement before you’re allowed to play in the arcade. If you just want to play games, there’s lots of other sites on the internet where you can do that.
Quote:thought this was a community for all that enjoyed communicating about what ever and with whomever in the internet world.it is, more or less. your gripe is that you’re being required to communicate before you can play.
March 25, 2007 at 8:31 pm #159593SpikeMemberBigBlueBall isn’t about the arcade only. Nobody’s restricting you from doing anything else on the site whatsoever, and 40 posts here isn’t a lot at all. And I’ve noticed all the scores you’ve got on the arcade… don’t you think you should give other people a chance to play and win, too, you’re awfully “good”.
If you want a straight answer, it’s because this contest involves prizes, and we won’t let anyone just come and wipe out all the competition legitametly or through cheating to win the prize and then never post here again. That’s not how it’s going to work. Instead, we’ll give the prize to a long-stading community member who we know we can trust and will enjoy the prize and will keep coming back. I’m not saying anything towards you personally, this is just in general to anyone who’s griping about not being able to compete.
The rule stands. 40 posts or 2 years. Take it or leave it. 😉
March 25, 2007 at 9:08 pm #159595Leapy LeoMemberI understand what Tigerblade and Spike are saying here but I’ve communicated with den by pm and found him to be really quite an interesting bloke with alot to say for himself. I think the problem maybe a slight lack of confidence [excuse me den but it’s just my impression of you] rather than disintest in everything else that’s going on on the site.

March 25, 2007 at 11:22 pm #159592TigerbladeParticipantFirst off… just as an aside, I have two things to ask. First is, please use regular punctuation. It’s hard to read your posts when everything is one long sentence. I don’t mean any disrespect, but… it’s standard grammar.
Secondly, you can edit your posts to include additional information so you don’t have to post three in a row.Ok, on to the topic at hand.
I understand that you’ve been communicating with at least one other member via PM, but that’s not the point of a forum. A forum is a community of people all using the boards to communicate with each other, not just one to another. If you want a personal communication, by all means use the PM system if you wish, but that’s also what regular instant messaging is for. Being part of the community involves more than just back-and-forth messaging with one other member.
We have lots of different sections here on the forums. One for each major instant messenger, a few for the smaller networks, off-topic sections on food, computers, romance, music, you name it. If you really want to be involved, you dont have to be a genius in all or any of the sections. You just have to participate. That’s all we ask, and I don’t think it’s too much.
I don’t mean to toot my or anyone else’s horn, but the people who are and were on staff didn’t get to those positions by sitting quietly messaging one or two other members. They got to be in relatively respected (as far as online forums go) positions by being active in the community, by interacting with lots of members in several different sections.
It’s ok if you don’t always know the answers to other people’s questions. That’s fine. We don’t expect you to. But if you’re going to use the arcade, which is only a very small part of this site, you need to participate in the rest of the site as well.
March 26, 2007 at 1:07 am #159589detn8rParticipantIf you’ve noticed, the site is more than just about IM. There is an off-topic area to post in. Plenty of reason to post, if you ask me.
An “active” forum community member, could post 3-5 times a day. You could reach 40 posts within 2-3 weeks. I started the arcade challenge for our forum users. Then, all of a sudden, someone like your self comes in, and wins every game, and puts the challenge in a self and locks it. No way to win, because your scores are excellent. We’ve never had that “issue” before, plus, other than the odd member winning a challenge with even less than 10 posts was minimal, so it was natural to enforce new rules. You’re not being part of our “community” if you don’t participate. Posting a thank you for winning games or posting to vent frustration on not being able to win a championship is hardly a consideration for a community player.
I never said, you couldn’t play in the arcade, it just means, you won’t be considered to win anything. And I don’t find it “fair” to others who DO want to be part of the championship and ARE community members.
If you want to be part of this community, there is plenty of opportunity for yourself, even if you don’t know what IM is.
And since you brought it up, I personally find it fishy that BOTH of your kids PM me on the same day about posting the scores for the championship, when THEY only played one game each.
So, like I said if you want to be part of this community, we enjoy seasoned people to post. If not, there is PLENTY of other gaming sites out there for you, even getgamer.com.
Thank you.
