Tigerblade
ParticipantThis meme seems to be circulating as of late, so I figured we could give it a go ’round these parts. The name of the game is to post five things about yourself that we most likely don’t already know about you.
So… for example… I can’t say that my favorite animals are white tigers, because I’m guessing you probably already figured that one out. If you didn’t know that about me already, well…. I guess you’re not all that bright, are you? 😛
Ok, for myself:
Uno. I couldn’t write a poem if my life depended on it. My best efforts turn out something like this:
Roses are red,
violets are blue,
this line doesn’t rhyme,
and neither does this one.Two. I’m deathly afraid of flying, stinging insects. It’s the only thing I’ve ever come close to having a phobia of. I’ll quite literally just freeze up if a wasp gets too close — I won’t attempt to swat it away, I’ll just freeze.
C. I was never very good at lists.
Second-to-last. I’m a grammar nazi. Okay, so that’s something you might have already known. Hmm.
Real second-to-last. I love the smell of fresh copies. Walking past the copy machine here after someone just slaughtered a tree is the greatest smell in the world next to freshly-cut grass and freshly-brewed coffee.
Fin. I wasted four years and thousands of dollars on a college education, only to discover that what I went to school for was not even remotely what I wanted to do with my life. I’ve since had a few jobs that make use solely of the skills I taught myself, and absolutely loved them.
Go.

MemberUno: I am a photo mad I take no handbag out with me just my camera Flickr: Photos from sarahtowny
Two: Don’t ask me to remember your birthday, all the cards I send say sorry I forgot, but I remembered in the end:o
Three: I am very in to my job, about to start a masters degree in insolvency law/business/credit management, to top up my law qualifications, so you won’t see me much from September..Hey it means my pay will go up lots and lots 😀
4: I like salad.
5: I don’t like crappy tv like Jerry springer, but when I am on my own, I cannot help but watch, saying OMG and giggling, makes me think, thank heavens I don’t have a life like that! But I have to watch! kills me and please forgive me …
July 11, 2007 at 11:26 pm #162704RabidKitten
ParticipantHeheh, now this should be interesting…
Pocket: a grammar nazi? No. You? Never. *cackles* (And I either freeze or go into irrational run away mode with flying stinging things)
Sarah: Salad! *yum* (And I forgive you *wink*)Are you afraid of what I’m going to post yet?
Be afraid!
A One:
Some of you know that I have a thing for drawing/doodling and I love stick figures. What you don’t know is that I actually carry around a little pad of paper and a pen in my pocket at all times and write down little ideas and stick figures in it. My way of recording the moment. Sometimes I scan them and ink them in photoshop and send to my friends as gifts.A Two:
I have a list of actors/actresses that if I ever see their names on a cast list, I make a point to see the movie, regardless of what it’s about. The list includes, and is not limited to John Cusack, Christian Bale, Christopher Walken, Alan Rickman, Audrey Tautau, Natalie Portman, David Bowie, Mila Jovovich, Jack Black, Kevin Smith. I have a belief that these people can make any crappy movie worth it.A Three:
I dislike storebought flowers with great intensity. I don’t like getting dead flowers to begin with. They’re depressing to watch die and they remind me of gravesites and hospital rooms. But if I’m going to get them, I’d rather have a peony or lilac wrapped in a paper napkin or a subway cup full of water.*CRUNCH*:
Jones Soda and Pull – N – Peel licorice are my absolute favorite things to get when I’m with friends because Jones is just heavenly and we make little things out of the licorice before eating it. I made a goomba once. It was awesome.Mr. Owl Says “three”:
Some of you know that I absolutely Loathe bars…Regardless of the fact that I am twenty-two and able to do such things legally, I am -not- a drinking fan. As a matter of fact, I dislike any substance that alters my ability to be completely in control of what I’m doing. (I don’t even like nyquil and refuse any mind/mood altering medication) Mostly because uncensored, I’m even more bizarre and while I am a very happy drinker, I don’t like not being in 100% control. I’m a control freak, but only when it comes to myself. I am more than happy to sit and watch my other friends drink, and do like a good house party with buddies. Kind of like that “I hate people, but I love gatherings” weird contradiction.Next!

MemberSami: Natalie Portman is one of my all time favorite actresses, I really liked her in “Anywhere but here” and “V for Vendetta”. And pull-n-peel Twizzlers (or any pull-n-peel licorice candies) are amazing. I like making shapes (like interlinked circles) and figures (like rolled up wheels) out of the “strings” before I eat them. 🙂
Alright, here goes:
To start of; I am terrified of large moths, I just hate them. When they are inside my house, I will not enter the room they are flying around in most of the time, until I think it’s “safe”. I hate when they circle around light sources, and then when you try to swat at them, they just spaz and circle around faster. What’s even worse is when you pick up a piece of clothing, they’re in it, and they’ll fly up and out of it into your face. *shutter*
Second-ly; I’m still afraid of the dark, somewhat. I need the leave the room to my door opened a little so I can get a little of the hallway light into my room, or I’ll freak out. Being in pitch black dark all alone in my room…and I’ll think: “What was that noise just then, is someone is in the house?! I can’t see anything, SHIZ!” Sometimes I’m just too dog tired and will not care, but most of the time I need some light so I won’t freak out.
Third-ly; I look up some of my sleep dreams in a dream book. If I have a really interesting dream, I will look it up in a dream book my mother got from a family member (the cover and title pages got torn off, it’s old), and I will believe most of or all of the description/interpretation it gives. A lot of people think dream books are a load of crap, but It’s just what I do. I think they’re pretty fascinating.Fourth-ly; I’ve got many “Happy Birthday” and Christmas cards laying around, from years ago to the present…Personal letters I’ve gotten in the mail too. I’ll just feel guilty if I throw these things out. Like: “Hey, thanks for the card you’ve sent me! It’s probably at the bottom of a landfill somewhere now, but thanks!”
And the conclusion; I will eat only one food group at a time at a meal. Let’s say there is macaroni and cheese, chicken, and baby carrots for dinner. I won’t eat a baby carrot then take a bit of the chicken, then go back to eating carrots. I’ll finish all the carrots, move on to the macaroni, eat it all, then finish off with the chicken. Another thing is that if a certain food group mixes in with another (ex: peas get mixed in with applesauce) I get annoyed and may not even eat the “contaminated” portion of the food group.
Let’s keep this going. 😉
July 12, 2007 at 4:26 am #162701detn8r
ParticipantI’m afraid of heights. I’ll either get really dizzy or have a panic attack.
I will not eat expired food. I look at expiry dates on everything, even canned food. Even if it was 1 day ago.
I must open all bags of chips (or whatever else) upside down.
I am an extremely picky eater. If a food has something crunchy in it, I wont eat it. Prime example is when people put green onion into food. I also HATE mushrooms. I hate the feeling of them, smell of them and of course taste of them.
I’m not an affectionate person. I don’t like hugs from family members (I’ll accept them in situations in utter sadness like a death, etc). I have a hard time telling my family I love them, or telling them happy birthday, merry christmas, happy mothers day etc. But for some reason, I love to buy gifts for people, and always spend as much as I see fit on a gift I know that person will love.
I guess there’s more, but that’s all you need to know 😉

ParticipantOoooh this could very easily turn into “Neurosis Central” *chuckles* Very very interesting.
Andrew- I’m the same way with cards and letters. I have a shoebox filled with them in one of the storage boxes in my mom’s porch. And apparently it’s not all that strange to be weird about your food. There was something in the Reader’s Digest about that. When I was a kid, my dad’s mean girlfriend told us that if we didn’t eat a little bit of everything (mixing) then it wouldn’t mix in our stomachs and wouldn’t get digested and we’d die from malnutrician. Wench.
Graham, I have similar picky eating habbits. I don’t ‘do’ weird vegitables in things. Peppers, onions, whatnot, because they’re crunchy and weird in food. Onions make me go a bit limps one anyway. Ick.

Something bizarre I’d like to add to my list:
Spaghetti Sauce: If it has a speck of onion in it… I will not put the sauce on the spaghetti. Even if it is put in a high-speed blender, I cannot stand to eat it. (Same if there are specks of chopped up tomato or peppers in it, but the onion is the main issue.)
I Just hate something about the “crunch”… My mom will always chop onions up very very finely and will say: “There’s no onions in this”, and I will always point it out and refuse to eat her spaghetti sauce, or any dish she serves already containing chopped-up onion. I just can’t stand those little crunches, the way it feels…The “real onion” taste, I don’t like that either. But it’s the crunch that really annoys me.
The bizarre thing is that I really like French Onion flavor Sun Chips, Funyuns, and those onion-toppers people put on green bean casserole’s.
I guess I like artificial onion flavor, but not real onion. I Can’t stand real onion.

Member♠ I’m a very optimistic person. I’ve never been sad or depressed about anything, even at a funeral. I always see the bright side of nearly every situation.
● I’m also a really picky eater, I hate anything that tastes slimy. Any fat on steak? Nope, not at all ever. Makes me gag. Nasty stuff. Sometimes I choose my own food that I make at home as opposed to what my mom’s made just because I’m so picky.
№3 I haven’t gained or lost over 5 lbs in over a year. My metabolism is like lightning, or… magic, or something. I can eat whatever I want whenever I want. I’m enjoying this now because I know it will go away. 😉
♣ I have horrible, horrible stage fright. I cannot get up in front of a medium/large group of people and do anything without looking like an idiot. I guess it doesn’t help that I’m shy/introverted, either, but meh.
♫ I play the guitar. Not very well, mind you, but it’s only been 2 years. My parents say (and I agree that) I have a musical ear, i.e. I can hear things that other people can’t, and, given a song, I can listen to it, sound it out and play it.
NEEEEEEXXXXT! 🙂
July 17, 2007 at 7:19 pm #162706RabidKitten
Participant*laughs a little* Oh just wait Jake. Hit that magic 20-something mark and you’ll see just what your metabolism is made of. I’m still waiting on that one…nearly 23 and still at a strange 95 here. Only time I gained weight was due to a depression. I’m waiting for that last shoe to drop.
As for the optomism and the picky eating…I feel ya. I got some -dirty- looks at my granny’s funeral. I still retain that I’m the kind of girl that can laugh at a funeral but never cry at a wedding. It’s weird. I’m a pesimistic optimist. Though I still love the line “So what do you do? You laugh. You laugh. I’m not saying I don’t cry but in between I laugh and I realize how silly it is to take anything too seriously.” I was chastized earlier today for being sad about my friend being shipped to Kosovo and smiling. Weird.
And food…I am the -worst- when it comes to meat. I cut the outsides off of everything, I don’t care if it’s been trimmed. Anything rubbery or overly juicy makes me gag. I can’t do brats because they’re…freaking gross feeling. I can’t doburgers. Most the time, I refuse to eat any kind of meat at a restaurant unless I can pick it completely apart first (chicken fingers), just because I have to see and approve the meat before it’s cooked to make sure it’s okay.
Yeah.
Weird.
But yay!
July 18, 2007 at 12:24 am #162702Tigerblade
ParticipantSami… +1 for that quote. For anyone who doesn’t recognize her quote, GO LOOK IT UP. IMMEDIATELY. Go. Now.
And as far as the metabolism goes… you both suck. All through high school I never gained a pound. All through college I hovered right around 140-145ish. Now I’m nearing 160. I’m not ‘fat’ obviously, but that’s a lot more than I was in college.
I blame the Chinese take-out place down the street from my old apartment. Food should not be both that delicious and that affordable. That’s just asking for trouble.
July 18, 2007 at 3:10 am #162710MrEggsalad
ParticipantWell here goes me:
Firstly, I hate all soda/pop. Yeah it’s true, in fact I always choose water over anything unless I can get lemonade. I don’t like the carbonation, and caffine gives me HORRIBLE headaches. You will never see me drinking any kind of soda or pop ever.
Secondly, I prefer metrics and military time vs the “regular American stuff”. You ask me the temperature I will tell you degrees Celsius. You ask me the time, I’ll throw out a 22:00. I originally switched to military time to keep myself doing math all day. I had to keep adding everything to 12. I switched to metrics to keep up with my British friends.
Thirdly, as a child I was VERY much wanting to be a racecar driver or monster truck driver. Oh I collected so many cars, had a favorite NASCAR driver, favorite monster truck, oh yeah even went to a monster truck rally thing. Loud and cool.
Fourthly, I can never be allowed to touch computers at a store. I can’t even look at them. I always try to go over and start changing settings and stuff to fit my needs, so I best be just kept away from them :p
Finally, before the days of the name “MrEggsalad” I used to use “SwiftSG” for usernames. I used to run a lot as a younger kid, and I and my best friend at the time had Lego super hero guys who I named mine Swift and he named his Speedy uh something with a G. Somehow the name caught on at school and for a little bit I was actually called Swift.

ParticipantSheesh, I didn’t know we had so many picky eaters here.
Anyway, I know I’m overdue for this, but I just barely posted this on my blog so I guess I’ll have to put it here too. So here goes.
One.
Human stupidity bugs me. Alright, maybe you already knew this, but now I can admit that specific things such as ignorance and people who jump to conclusions can really get on my nerves. It irritates me more than anyone else. People are stupid these days! I can’t take it! I don’t know about you, but I’m going nuts. Aaaaaaaahh!! [Jumps out window]Two.
I have this problem where I often think about money and wealth. I realize that perhaps everyone wishes they were rich, but personally, I think about it so much that it’s probably unhealthy. If I had a hundred-thousand dollars, I could buy this.. and this… and maybe this…Three.
I enjoy walking. In fact, I’d be glad to walk the two miles from the school to my house if I had to. When people call me crazy, I tell them to shutup and think of the pioneers.Four.
I never listen to local radio. The popular music scene just sucks. The majority of teenage guys around here listen to unoriginal punk-rock bands, and as far as girls go, some of them listen to… well, I’m too scared to mention it. Seriously, though, I’ve never heard any electronica on the airwaves, nor have I heard any trance music or post-rock. Pfft.Five.
Sometimes I drink milk straight out of the container. Gasp!
Alright, I’m done. I’m kind of thirsty, too…July 23, 2007 at 9:27 pm #162713PolarBearNPR
ParticipantMy five
1. Food: I’ll try anything! I may not eat it again (think octopus  ) but I’ll give it a try.
2. I’m afraid of heights! 😮 I didn’t know how afraid til we visited the Grand Canyon and I was physically unable to go past a certain tree. Weird feeling, that. And perhaps not the best destination for a vacation.
3. I write. 😮 I never know when inspiration will strike or what the subject will be, but I get good feedback from my readers.
4. I love celebrating birthdays. If it’s your birthday, get ready to be celebrated!

5. I don’t like water. 🙁 Flavor it with at least lemon and it’s palatable.
July 23, 2007 at 10:50 pm #162703Tigerblade
ParticipantDan — we should start a petition to get bands like Godspeed and 65daysofstatic some serious airplay. There’s a decent independent alternative station where I live, but they’re starting to get on my nerves. Music is not new after it’s been out for a year, and it’s not exclusive if another station has been playing it since its release.
PBNPR — I’ll try anything once as well… but there aren’t any rules on how much I’ll try. You should check out Steve, Don’t Eat It! –> Hi-larious.
And you probably wouldn’t be a fan of the horseshoe thinger, then?

 I don’t think I could . . . . . . stomach any of those things he . . . . . . tried . . .   Truly stomach-wrenching.
And the horshoe thingy – heck no! Not a chance! I’m glad people can do it, but not me.
