Lately I’ve been receiving this error message when I try to visit some sites:
Quote:quote:502 Bad Gateway
The following error occurred:
The host name was not found during the DNS lookup. Contact your system administrator if the problem is not found by retrying the URL.

Please contact the administrator.
I also use Opera as my secondary browser and it can visit the same sites perfectly fine. So I know the problem is with Internet Explorer, probably one of the settings. Anyone know what the problem is?
The host name was not found during the DNS lookup. February 25, 2004 at 10:53 pm #84236lazyturboMemberNope. I box that says “Automatically detect settings” is checked in the LAN settings.
February 25, 2004 at 11:07 pm #84232DJHyperbyteMemberIt is generally not a good idea to have ‘Automatically adjust settings’ checked for home computers. Other than that, ‘bad gateway’ may simply mean the website is having technical problems. Did you ask someone else to check that the website was really online?

February 26, 2004 at 1:37 am #84231DJHyperbyteMemberWhoops. Well, then all that I can think of is:
– Make sure there is no proxy server filled in under ‘LAN settings’.
– Disable automatic detection of a proxy server.March 2, 2004 at 11:47 pm #84235lazyturboMemberYep, I think that did the trick. Thanks DJHyperbyte and Fimus.
