Qwerty
MemberYup…
I was recently on Gamespot and they had on their rumor control, among other things, 9/11: The Game!
Taken from Gamespot.com:
RUMOR #3: Someone is making a videogame which will feature the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Source: The developer of the game, Germany-based Replay Studios.
The official story: GameSpot could not reach Replay officials for comment.
What we heard: When posts with headlines such as “9/11: The Game” started popping up on various forums, many thought the game would an offensive creation by terrorist sympathizers, similar to the (unfortunately) abundant suicide-bomber flash games. Like most things in life, however, the reality was much more complex. According to Replay, the game, entitled Survivor, “is a third-person disaster survival game with highly interactive locations, based on famous, authentic-historical disaster scenarios.” This will not only include the horrors of 9/11, but the 1985 Mexico City Earthquake, the 1945 Hiroshima bombing, and the sinking of the Titanic. Why would anyone want to experience any of these hellish events? “We call this unique genre ‘Reality Gaming,'” goes Replay’s sales pitch, “The highly original single-player game concept has never been seen before.” Incidentally, the highly original single-player game has not yet found a publisher.

Participantwow. can we say “tasteless”? that’s disgusting. hasnt found a publisher? what a shock. sorry, something like that should not be a valid game concept. whoever decided that would be a good idea to develop has a sick and depraved mind.

MemberYou took the words out of my mouth Tigerblade. The mere idea that someone can find entertainment or enligthment of some source in recreating this terrible tragedies in a game is completely sickening 🙁 It’s no surprise it has’nt found a publisher. Anyone that promotes such things should be commited to a mental institution.

MemberIt doesn’t surprise me that a game like this is created. It’s very logical. Why do we make movies about the Titanic and World War II? Because we wonder how it was, or how our life could have been if we were there. We are curious. We try to get a taste of how times were back then.
I honestly don’t see an ethical difference between seeing Leonardo DiCaprio trying to flee from a sinking Titanic on a TV screen, or trying to flee from a sinking Titanic myself, in virtual reality.

I agree. In time it may be a better idea, but not so soon.

The difference I see, is the fact that the Titanic was a tragic accident. 9/11 was a barbaric act of terrorism. However, I guess you could also say that WW2 was also terrorism. (For the record, I do enjoy FPS such as Call Of Duty, Medal Of Honor).
I agree with Qwerty, its far too soon. The film with Leonardo in it was made a long time after the sinking of the Titanic, whereas this game would be too soon.

MemberA scenario in the game should be where you can bomb the developer’s HQ’s. What a bad idea. Who would want to relive 9/11? I can understand about the Titanic and people being curious as to how it happened, and to watch it, but that’s becuase it was on a movie, so people are used to it. But 9/11? Come on people, you can do better than that. I agree totally, it is way too soon.

ParticipantEh…what? Yeah, titanic was a movie, but there have been many documentaries and such on 9/11 too. Hello, Farenheit 9-11?? Ever heard of it? God…
Anyway…ehhh I don’t know about a game. I mean…wars I can understand, because they took months, but 9-11 was kind of a one hit thing. Unless you want to sit in a plane for however many hours and twiddle your thumbs…kind of a pointless game.

ParticipantI think it sounds pretty cool! In fact, I thought up of this a couple of years ago and though man, that would be a cool game! where you’re a firefighter and you have to run into the buildings and save people. Of course, I have absolutlely so experience in making video games so… yeah.

MemberI dont think the developer feels compelled to relive the 9/11 and all the stuff that has been posted above.
He’s just a man with lack of imagination, not good enough for a better scenario for a game and wants to get attention by a game that will surely cause distress. -
