MemberMy WLM has always been a bit prone to logging me out now and again but recently it has gotten much worse, like every few minutes. It says the connection has been lost and it reattempts to connect in a few seconds and its successful, but its getting on my nerves.
The thing is, i tried it on a different email account and i didnt get any signing outs for the 30 mins or so i was on it. I remember trying it on my sisters laptop recently and the same email account being fine. So whether these are coincidences or not i don’t know.
Any suggestions?

MemberThis is most likely a connection problem between your computer and the world wide web, and not actually anything to do with Windows Live Messenger.
If you and your sister are both using WiFi enabled laptop, do you have decent reception?
If you are using a firewall, does it continue to happen after the firewall has been disabled?
Do you run any proxy software?
Do you run any peer guardian software? such as filtering rude words from websites? Restrictions from certain websites? That type of thing?

Memberim using a dekstop computer connected directly to the router. And, like i said, it works fine on my sisters laptop through the same router, and on other accounts on my pc. I tried disabling the firewall and it still continued.
I’m not running any proxy software.
I just don’t understand how it could be isolated to a single account?

MemberThing is, it shouldn’t…
It could be which Messenger Server you are connected to… I know its sorta Ironic, but signing out then in again is the only advice I can think of.
I used to experience this problem a while ago, and it went away after a while.

ModeratorI agree with Stigmata. I’ve had problems in the past with WLM8 suddenly disconnecting and reconnecting. It’s especially frustrating when you’re in the middle of a conversation, but hey, these things happen. Just sign in again. Blame it on Microsoft’s servers 😉
Try to be patient :crying: and sooner or later this problem will pass.

MemberI understand your advice, because that was my immediate reaction. But after a week or so now it’s looking like it could be something else.
I logged myself in through trillion while i was at school, since it can keep a record of connection activity which i could look over later. And, to be fair, it only signed me in and out maybe once an hour, which i can live with. It seems to be worse in the evenings.
I’m not alone; a friend of mine has almost an identical problem, and he seems convinced its his router. However, many of my friends, who all live in the same area, have reported no such disconnections.
When i do manage to stay connected, a lot of my messages and messages from my contacts seem to get lost. I know this because the “so and so is typing a message” label comes up at the bottom, but stops without an accompanying message. When i ask them if they sent something, they say that they had. At one point we had to have a conversation solely through the handwriting tab feature since they were the only messages getting through 🙁

MemberI haven’t tried what you said, but oddly enough, i’ve been on for a few hours so far and it hasn’t signed me out once.
However, i’m having problems with googletalk now. I’m guessing it may be a problem with my router. I’ll post in that forum.
Thanks for all your advice.

This is the same for me – it tends to be worse in the evenings. I tried re-formatting my computer because of this but it didn’t make any difference.

Same for me too…

I too have been having problems with Google Talk signing out every few minutes… in fact, all Instant Messaging clients (even online Web Messenger) and non-MSN clients have been doing it.
It seems a small number of people are having exactly the same problem, but nobody has the solution 🙁

MemberEveryone that i’ve talked to with this problem has Tiscali as their ISP. I smell a rat. This might be something to do with their not so fair “fair usage policy”.

ModeratorThere you go. Hope you guys can sort out the problem with Tiscali.
