Before we change colors, let’s figure out if we really want to keep the Premier membership concept (which means really doing something to give them value). Maybe we give the Premier member program a siesta for a while, to be relaunched at some time in the future?I personally feel that the Premier Member thing should be given a rest, at least for now, unless we are willing to implement sweeping changes (as suggested by EvilSeph) or to resurrect it with a new branding (as suggested by detn8r).
Anyway, here’s a simple poll to see what our staff think.

We really should “put it off” for a while. We need some time to whip up some sensible ideas… then we can re-start it later.
Or what about a flat-out donations link? In essence, isn’t that part of/most of what being a premier member is, supporting BigBlueBall?
One idea I have is maybe setting up a donation link, then, with a certain “level” of donation, they could get a gift from the BBB store. (Ex. $15 donation=BBB T-Shirt, $25=T-Shirt and Mug, $50=T-Shirt, Mug, and Mouse pad…etc) Like PBS! :p

An IRC vhost?
+v on IRC?
Adfree content?
These are also good suggestions, but personally, I only think people would put emphasis on the Adfree content, the @bigblueball.com address, and the user.bigblueball.com idea. I really don’t know if the IRC would do much… =/
May 14, 2007 at 2:44 am #161181detn8rParticipantAre there any paying members out there at this time?
May 14, 2007 at 2:59 am #161191SpikeMemberI think he mentioned something like two… I’ll go look at the exact stats.
May 14, 2007 at 3:01 am #161192SpikeMember3 active and 5 expired… a percentage of those are ex-staff. I say drop it, and possibly re-brand it (completely different style, name, price, features) when the new site gets designed.
May 14, 2007 at 3:09 am #161182detn8rParticipantPAYING members. Is there any active PAYING subscriptions? Other than that guy who was banned.

Premier Membership Eagle_Kiwi 01-03-2007 01-03-2008 ActiveThose are the two that are active, paying, and non-ex-staff.
May 14, 2007 at 5:54 am #161183detn8rParticipantO RLY?
Ian payed? Last time I checked, he was ex staff. *shrugs*
May 14, 2007 at 3:47 pm #161180Jeff HesterKeymasterIan paid, as did Sarahtowny. In all we’ve had six paying members, with one renewal.
May 14, 2007 at 10:08 pm #161194Jon8RFCMemberI’m inclined to say “give it a rest”, but since there are people currently paying for it, I think they should be highly considered before anything changes. If it’s given a rest, they should be reinstated as Premier with some type of e-gift when it comes back around; a free initial membership for x days, for instance, to “test-drive” the new system…as a “your membership is appreciated”.
May 14, 2007 at 10:51 pm #161184DavidParticipantIf we’re going to drop it, just promise a free year for each paying member when the program is re-launched.
May 16, 2007 at 6:40 pm #161185DavidParticipantOkay – based on the poll results for this, it seems we want to drop the program.
Here is what I suggest.
There are currently 21 members in the Premier Usergroup. Send each member a PM letting them know that are are going to temporarily discontinue the premier program.
For those who are paying members – perhaps let them keep their increased PM storage and custom user title–and let them know they’ll get a free year when we open it back up again? I think that is fair.
Agree?
May 16, 2007 at 11:33 pm #161188imported_EvilSephMemberI say we silently make it disappear, but let them keep their access to the premier member forums. Once we’ve done this, we can let them know, through that forum, what we’re planning to do – effectively showing them that there is a point to being premier.
If anything, I’d “keep” them, silentlly hide the program but let the current paying members help shape the new BBB. That way they have an incentive to buy it when we bring it back with a renewed force and more to offer.
May 17, 2007 at 12:20 am #161186DavidParticipantSo… change the premier color back to blue, remove the badge.. but let them change their title’s and access the premier forum?
May 17, 2007 at 2:59 am #161189imported_EvilSephMemberIndeed. And leave a note bout what we’re doing in the premier forums and that we want their opinion on our plans – or if we aren’t ready, let them know that we’ll need their assistance sometime in the future.
