I have Windows XP home edition. Since today morning, as soon as I start my pc and login in my id, a pop-up window (seems like a VB program) opens with the title “Hello” and the message “I think something is wrong, Don’t you think so?” and 2 buttons “yes” and “no”. Clicking on “no” closes the window and clicking on “yes” leads to another pop-up with the title “yeah” and the message “i knew you were clever” is displayed. Clicking on “ok” again closes the window. It doesn’t seem to be doing anything else.
I am worried people :(. I hope its not a virus. Right now I can’t see any changes, but am not sure about it. I tried searching my local hard drives for a file containing the word “wrong” but didn’t find any such files. I don’t know what else to do. Please give me suggestions and soon. Help!!
well check what all programs load at startup… somebody might have played a prank on you… he must have loaded a program on your computer which automatically starts itself on startup… Also scan your computer for viruses…

How do I do that 😮 ? I checked my add/remove programs, but couldn’t find anything funny. But I don’t know how to check the programs that load at startup. I checked my autoexec.bat file but didn’t find any probs. Please Help 🙁
Well I hope you’ve run an updated virus scan on your system. Also try running ad-Aware and Spybot Search And Destroy (you can d/l them from http://www.download.com). If running those three does not solve it, check your start up programs from Start -> Run -> type msconfig -> Startup Tab -> uncheck any unwanted startup items.
no deepthought… you dont need to go to Add/Remove program for that… what you need to figure out is what programs are executed on startup… i.e the moment your windows boots up… you can find the list of programs which load at startup from the following registry key…
[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun]
and
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun]
Go throught them… delete the thing which might be causing the problem…MESSAGE from Moderator………..

I am just trying to save some space… In the end either one of us will put up the solution… As you can see there is no Y! messenger info on my profile… deepthought and me are friends and she knows my ID… In case thats bad then its ok with me… lets solve the problem here itself…

I didn’t change anything and the pop-up has suddenly stopped appearing. I did what you Shifter and Coolguy suggested, but couldn’t find any such unwanted program as the pop-up itself has stopped. I dunno whether to be happy or more worried. Any more suggestions?
