MemberI am using yahoo 5.5 at my College.I used to get disconnected frequently and i hardly receive any message from the other end. It asked me to delete the cookies and asked me to set proxy settings (as i am connected via a firewall).Even changing all the things i get disconnected every 2 minutes. In addition to this i get all the msgs at once from the other end. TO get like this i kept refreshing my yahoo messenger. Even i change my status to Invisible mode my status still is showing in Available mode.If u guyz can solve this problem it would be greatly appreciated. And if u know abt ne Web based messnger that has interoperability plz lemme know.

MemberYahoo! has its very own web messager that runs on Java/DHTML!
http://messenger.yahoo.com select web messenger beta from the left.
What you are describing sounds normal to Yahoo!’s recent problems with lag, some posts are taking 2 or more minutes to materialise to the rest of the users in a chat room and PMs etc… You get no posts for a while, then 15 all appear at once. But if this happens a lot for you, could be your connection.
You might try no network detection instead of the other settings. This sometimes works for people. login, preferences, connection then check no network detection. This just forgets about the firewall etc…
I’ve heard from other people that Yahoo! doesn’t always work properly through a proxy.

MemberThis happens to me when I log in from my office. I think it has something to do with the firewall. I have tried changing all my settings and I still show as being available even though I am invisible. Maybe one of our more technical people has an idea.

KeymasterI have the same problems connecting at the office. Most IT staffs are not too keen on people running instant messenger clients at work (or school), because of security risks (both perceived and real). Some of the risks of exposing your personal computer are low (who really cares what’s on your computer), but exposing a company network is much more serious.
Technically speaking, you should check with your campus IT and ask them if they have special proxy settings for Messenger, or perhaps they have a policy that prevents you from using it. Either way, it’s best to be informed.

MemberMaybe try Trillian or Mirana. Both support Yahoo! Instant Messaging, not chat though.
http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/trillian/index.html – free and pro version available.
http://www.miranda-im.org/ – you would need to find the Yahoo! plugin on the same site for this.
