windows 2000, no firewall, dial-up connection YM (5,5,0,1254)
Upon installing Kazaa, my yahoo messnger voice chat went haywire. It seems i dont have incoming voice chat UNLESS I PRESS THE TALK BUTTON. It weird actually- whenever i first enter a chatroom, i can hear and see the names of those who are talking in the room for a few seconds then everything falls silent (voice chat only though) afterwhich, i have to resort to mic pressing to hear (and at the same time, broadcast) conversation. I tried reinstalling my YM but it didnt work. i also tried un installing Kazaa but it didnt work.
Im fresh out of ideas. please help.
May 11, 2003 at 9:40 pm #62948habeem4999MemberI was having a problem with voice freezing completely, but I finally fixed it. What I did was went to add/remove programs, double clicked Yahoo! Messenger and than chose REPAIR.
Repair fixed voice for me, where uninstalling and reinstalling did not. Hope it works for you.
May 12, 2003 at 1:34 pm #62949watusiMemberIs the “Repair” option available only for certain windows versions? I cant seem to find it in Windows 2k.
May 12, 2003 at 4:18 pm #62946IndyToneMemberI hope that you find an answer to this topic. It requires IMMEDIATE ATTENTION!!!
May 13, 2003 at 12:50 pm #62947habeem4999MemberI’m not sure if it is or isn’t in only certain versions of windows. I use Windows 98 and when I go into add/remove program than chose Yahoo! Messenger it pops up the window “Choose Uninstall Method”
The choices I have are:
Automatic
Custom
RepairRepair is the one you want. If you want i can take a screenshot of the window for you. Just let me know.
May 27, 2003 at 8:22 pm #62950rrsuzieq2000Memberhave you tryed pinging your self it might help you u go to start run then put in ping there and do it 3 times let me know if it works
May 27, 2003 at 8:43 pm #62953NettiMemberI have also heard of this problem. Especially when people have just finished loading music, then try to voice. For some reason it won’t work. However, all they had to do was close all programs, and reboot. Apparently you have some major conflict going on between yahoo and kazaa
May 27, 2003 at 10:28 pm #62944xerraireMemberIsn’t Kazaa loaded with spyware anyway? Why would you want that on your PC?
May 27, 2003 at 10:37 pm #62945xerraireMemberI am sure there is a lot of information about Kazaa, spyware, and what exactly it can do negatively, here is one link I found real quick that explains it somewhat » http://www.imilly.com/kazaa.htm
However if your voice and yahoo chat are so important, and this Kazaa could be the problem according to Netti, you might think about getting rid of the culprit. However it may not be that easy. There are certain programs that can help you though.
May 28, 2003 at 6:19 am #62952NhyrvanaMemberWatusi ~ couple of thoughts here…
what kind of sound card.. full duplex? half duplex? i see this many times with folks who do not have a full duplex card….
also, check and see if kazza is in start up.. ( click start, then run, type msconfig , then go to start up tab and uncheck kazaa if its there… then click apply. will tell you its reboot time.. ) if so remove it. it might have taken over audio properties.. much like real player does.
another possibility? you may just need a soundcard driver update.
usually at win updates or check the manufact. site.need to see what soundcard is. possible drivers/ updates missing.. try belarc advisor… find it on Google.com
hope one of these offers some help..
…. good luckMay 30, 2003 at 2:51 am #62951NhyrvanaMemberwatusi? you get the problem fixed? what did it for ya? hello 😛
