I have no idea what’s wrong. I’ve have no sound on my computer whatsoever. I was watching an mpeg in Window Media Player, and then when I tried to watch another, the sound was totally gone. I looked at my volume controls, and they’re all normal. I tried playing some mp3’s in winamp, and they won’t play. This is really wierd since i was listening to music in WMP and Winamp not 20 minutes ago… what’s wrong? I checked to make sure everything’s plugged in. So i’m at a loss.

May 12, 2005 at 10:52 pm #121688TigerbladeParticipantdid you somehow disable the windows audio service? i’m assuming you’re using XP: go to Start > Run and type services.msc – scroll down to the bottom of the list and check that ‘Windows Audio’ is set to Automatic and is started. if that somehow got disabled or stopped, that would explain the lack of audio…
if that doesnt work, post back and let us know, obviously.

Also, it would be wise to test the speakers. To do this, you can turn them on at a above-normal volume and then unplug them from your computer. If you tap the tip of the plug with your finger you should hear the speakers crackle a bit.
Now, if the speakers pass this test… you can start looking at software. 🙂

(I don’t chat anymore 😉 ) Anyway, my sound worked, and all of a sudden…it did not. It turned out that someone sent something to my laptop and screwed up my audio drivers. I had to download them again. Could it be the thing you were watching was downloaded and might have had something with it? It’s probably a longshot but I thought I’d put it out there in case all else failed. Good Luck.:)
