Has anyone used this program? I want to broadcast a long show over the internet. How safe am I if I broadacst it using the http method? Any help will be appreciated. 🙂
I’ve tried a version of ActiveWebcam, but quickly decided it wasn’t what I wanted for a few simple reasons:
– I didn’t think it was intuitive enough to use
– it used up almost all my memory (512MB RAM) while broadcasting
– it managed to take up so much CPU power that I could hardly “surf” while broadcasting
– the interface looked really bad
If they’ve changed the last three “problems” I would consider using it again, but I’ve already gotten other software that does the same (and more) as ActiveWebcam; webcamXP but I don’t know if there’s still a free version of it or not.
Hi,
Thanks for the info. I tried webcamxp and it is great! Way better than active webcam. I have a couple of questions. Is there anyway to change the url? I dont want everyone to see my ip address. Will changing my ip after im done broadcasting keep me safe?
If you change your IP address (which your ISP might do every time you go online, though a lot of broadband connections have static IP addresses) you’ll be safe. I have my firewall set up to allow access through the ports that webcamXP uses, but all others are closed or stealthed. In addition to that, I change the ports after I’ve used the same one a couple times.
The only way to be sure nobody can get your IP address is by using the FTP upload feature, but then it won’t be “streaming” as when you use the HTTP server.
