MemberI deleted a couple people and want to talk to one of them again.. Didn’t think it through too much… hehe.. Anyways. I cannot add them back. I know they are online though, when i do the add, it will not show them as online. I know this because I recieved a message from one of them when they were not on my contact list. Anyways. How can I add them? Why can’t I re-add them. I remember back before this live crap, if you wanted to re-add someone you just add them back on… and done… now.. I can’t… It’s fustrating… If someone could help me out here… it would be great
Thanks!

ParticipantHello! Welcome to BBB. I think I understand your problem correctly & can help you out.
WLM does not delete contacts in the way one normally thinks of it. When you delete a contact you have 2 choices: just to delete from the contact list (wich still allows them to contact you but they are not on your list) &/or block the person (which removes them from your contact list & prevents any messages from coming through from them.) But they still remain availble for you to add back at any time regardless of block or delete.
Go to Tools/Options/Privacy & they should either be appearing on your Block or Allow list. If they are on your Block list highlight them, right click & “Move to Allow”. Then from the Allow list highlight, right click & “Add to Contacts”
If someone is NOT on your contact list, but IS on your allow list, they will be able to send you messages even though you don’t see them as a contact. But by adding them back to contacts you will be able to see when they are online (assuming you are not blocked or they are not invisible.)
I did find however, when I deleted & blocked a Yahoo contact & then decided to add them back on – they did get a new notification I wanted to add them. But for WLM contacts, you can block, delete & add back without them knowing they were ever off your list.
Hope this helps. Let me know if it doesn’t work.

MemberUnfortunately this does not help. They are on my allowed list. Making it so they are not blocked and can send me msg’s. I tried clicking on the add to contacts at the top when they send a message. Though, It will not let me. I will try to do it again when they are online and send me a message when I am at the computer.
I added them from typing in their address in the add a contact… But to no avail… it does not show them online ever, though they still send me messages while being on my MSN list showing offline.. Add this person to your contact list still shows at the top.

ParticipantMany moons ago (when WLM had a server issue) I had a problem adding contacts. I never had the problem where they wouldn’t show online….BUT when you mentioned you have the add contact option, yet it doesn’t seem to work that DID sound familiar…I wondered if the fix for the issue I had MIGHT work.
Perhaps you’ve already tried this, but if not, here’s a link to the thread…. https://bigblueball.com/forums/msn-windows-live-messenger-support/38447-problems-contacting-adding-contacts-sign-freezing-read.html this is the path for XP….if you happen to be on Vista it’s probably a slightly different path so if that’s the case, please let me know so I can figure out where you need to go.
Please post back and let me know if this helps any.

MemberNo that did not help. Though I did fix it myself. I guess there was problems w/ having the msn contact in my hotmail contacts… So I ended up deleting the person out of my contacts (the address)… then below when it lists all your contacts that you have had, if you did not delete them off your hotmail contacts. So I deleted both… and then clicked on the convo where it says ‘the user is not on your contact list, click here to add them’ and done… on my contact list :D…
If you would like to explain myself a bit better repost. And I will, for future help.
Thanks for the help!

ParticipantI’m not sure I followed that completely – but I sure am glad you got it fixed. I remember how frustrating it was when I had the similar problem.
I would like to understand what the problem seemed to be a bit better if you get time but no hurry. Sounds like it had to do with contacts still in your hotmail address book but not on your contact list in WLM anymore?? Not deleting them completely before trying to add them back??
