A new beta of AIM is out…
New Features:
* AIM Games Support (by Wild Tangent) — This component is required to play certain AIM Games. If you choose not to install it, you may be asked to install it when you try to launch a game from AIM.
* AIM/Weatherbug Desktop Weather Application (by Weatherbug) — This component provides live neighborhood weather, forecasts, and storm warnings.
It has been confirmed that this version is DeadAIM compatible

Also, livesnabox, the link to your picture is dead, neowin doesnt allow hotlinking. If you want you can use the picture from the AIM page, its the same.
I can’t seem to locate any screen shot of the option to download the AIM games software along with the weather bug software. It really dosen’t matter. As for the Kazaa remark. Kazaa has no option if you decide to want their spyware or not. AIM has now given you a choice. Unlike Kazaa.
So they say… yet after deciding NOT to install the spyware and here is ZoneAlarm alerting me that WeatherBug does want to send an outboudn connection to their server. WAKE THE FREAK UP AOL! You have got it half right but dont do a job half arse! Direct connection works and the choice to choose what to install but now this becomes malware when it decides to install Weatherbug when I clearly did not check it…. Sorry AOL but you loose!
it still installs some “part” of weatherbug even if you choose not to. I just unregistered the dll and deleted it =/
a few things- WEATHERBUG IS NOT SPYWARE- don’t take my word for it- and please don’t rely on rumors that folks seem to be spreading aroudn the net (competitors??)- run AdAware, run spybot, spysweeper, check at kephyr.com, run pest patrol, etc. NONE of them list WeatherBug as spyware and adaware and spybot are the 2 biggest and most respected anti-spyware programs out there, because WeatherBug is not.
I am aware that the rumor is out there and occasionally legitimate sources have picked up the rumor- whether it was started by a competitor or just misinformation, I don’t know.
I do know that we do NOT track websurfing habits or ‘spy’ on our user base. WeatherBug is incapable of tracking your overall web use or deciphering anything on your hard drive, nor can it determine what you were doing before you opened your WeatherBug program or after you closed it. Any software program that is implying or reporting that WeatherBug is ‘spyware’, or “data-miner” is incorrect.

Lastly- in regards to the beta test- any files that were being put on your system have been fixed and before the main launch of the new AIM, if you OPT OUT of installing WeatherBug, NOTHING will be put on your system- NADA.
In regards to WhiteMateria- I run zone alarm too- WeatherBug updates the weather from about 7000 weather stations LIVE- through the internet- so yes, you need to tell your firewall to allow WeatherBug to call out thru port 80 to check for weather updates, and severe weather alerts.
