MemberHey everyone,
I have AIM 5.9.6089
Its seems that anytime someone from AIM express or another AIM 3rd party messenger (like gaim, trillian, etc) IMs me, my AIM decides it doesn’t like it and boots me off and then reconnects.
It only happens with people that are on these, regular IMs are no problem.
I AM running Zone Alarm, and I have IM Security completely off, I have a Linksys router (firmware updated), but I have the port (5190) forwarded to my IP (which made signing on a breeze), but I’m still receiving the problem.
It happens to me on both of my computers (wireless and not)
Its frustrating when I’m trying to have a conversation with someone while they’re in class and every time they IM me I get booted.
Any help would be appreciated.

KeymasterHave you always had this problem, or did it just start happening? Have you considered reinstalling AIM, maybe even trying the latest version?
I use AIM (though not as often as I used to — I prefer WLM now), but I’ve never had the problem you’ve described. I don’t think it’s a bug in 5.9, but something about your configuration (somewhat unlikely since you’re having the same problem on two PCs) or your account (more likely, and another area to test — create a new account?).

MemberIt happens with 3-4 different screen names, and it’s not just my 2 computers. My one roommate quit using AIM completely because how much it shut down and restarted.
I would try using the new AIM, but I just honest to god dont like it. It’s a resource hog and just not as reliable as 5.9
I just wish I could get this fixed.
Thanks!!

MemberIt sounds like there’s something in the packets which AIM has a problem with receiving/sending/displaying. Do you have any logs of IMs that caused you to crash?
Try this: disable AIM expressions, your own buddy icon, and disable display of others’ icons…just uncheck every box and clear your own icon. Then in the IM/chat/mobile section on the left-hand side, put a check beside “disable graphical smileys”. Let me know if it persists.
