MemberI have been using AIM 5.9.6089, the latest AIM installment. I have not switched to Triton, because I did not like it so I stuck with 5.9.
I got a update message that said AIM 6.0 beta is out. Is AIM 6.0 basically AIM Triton or an update of AIM 5.9? Because in the screenshots, they look similar to Triton.
This would help clear up my confusion about whether to update when it officially is released.

ParticipantI’ve moved this thread from “AIM News” as it’s more of a question than a news release. I personally don’t use the actual AIM client, so I’m not sure if this is a Triton update or a newer classic version.
Perhaps someone on the forums has already upgraded and could fill us in?

MemberAIM 6.0 beta was AIM Triton, but it’s been significantly improved. If you have a good enough computer, I suggest trying it out. 😉

MemberAs an appendage to king’s post–“AIM Pro” is also lumped into the group of “AIM 6.0” and “AIM Triton”. All three are the same main codebase with a name change. AIM Triton is to AIM Pro, as XP Home is to XP Pro. They’re nearly identical and are the same codebase, but with a very tiny amount of feature differences.

MemberI’ve tried all- Triton (aim 6.0) is pretty solid at this point. I don’t like Aim pro at all- no ads but also missing some functionality.

MemberI’m still totally bewildered by this “Triton” term (let alone Pro, which I’d never heard of, thank goodness.)
I see a list of their old versions here, the current Version 6 appears to be the latest “non-Triton”, but Triton still appears to be updated along a parallel(?) path, with a different series of version numbers.
So – what’s the DIFFERENCE, if any…. and if so, which of the 2 types is “better”, I wonder ?

MemberAIM 6.0 is better and more enhanced than Triton. Triton was the codename of the program before it was changed to AIM 6.0.

MemberExcellent, King! Thank you – that makes sense out of the chaos for me. 😀
(So, I guess now 6 is out, there won’t be any more Triton versions, to confuse simple folks like me. )

MemberIt is a copy of triton that has more ‘5.9 like’ Features. I say not to upgrade until the final is released, because right now the features they advertise aren’t in the beta yet (go figure)
