What is going on with AIM? They add “away message clicks” into my profile, and now they are adding “AIM Bots.” What is next?
November 16, 2005 at 5:01 pm #131675KudoParticipantThat is a good question.I have the same problem using AIM with Trillian. They added two AIM bots yesterday and I deleted them and today four more 🙁 this is not good at all.I would like to know what is going on too?
November 16, 2005 at 5:06 pm #131685henry_nycMemberwhat did you mean about the ‘away clicks’ in your profile?
Not sure why aim thought they could force buddies into my list without asking– not cool. think if I delete them they will come back?November 16, 2005 at 6:10 pm #131674bronxyMemberon the bottom of my profile it said:
less clicks, use the away page. and went to some aim.com site.the link is gone now though.
November 16, 2005 at 10:31 pm #131676KudoParticipantok here it is 😡
November 16, 2005 at 11:53 pm #131681ixfd64MemberYeah, I got those bots too. There’s nothing on the aim.com main page. Are these “legit” bots, or are they viruses?
November 17, 2005 at 12:17 am #131672TigerbladeParticipantugh. further proof of how much AOL sucks. you cannot just assume that i will want these stupid bots on my list. if i want to know movie times or shop for something, i can do that just fine without the “help” of AOL and their bots.
November 17, 2005 at 12:42 am #131682DragonSlayerzMemberThis really sucks you know, aim is getting wack..

November 17, 2005 at 2:14 am #131683DragonSlayerzMemberHmm i never thought of that. I’m so stupid hehehe.
November 17, 2005 at 2:16 am #131670DavidParticipantMy god. I’ve complained about A LOT in the past in terms of AOL, and I noticed this new group today. So I figured I’d at least send them some IMs and see what they can do. The ShoppingBuddy is actually really nice if you want to get a quick price on something, I like it.
[21:09:46] Me: athlon X2 4800+
[21:09:46] ShoppingBuddy: OK, I’m searching for matches 4 U. Gimme a sec…[21:09:46] ShoppingBuddy:
– Search results for athlon X2 4800– AMD Athlon 64 ADA4800CDBOX 2.4 GH [$787.00 – $955.65]
Narrow your search by adding Processor Speed (ex.: 2 GHz – 2.5 GHz), Brand (ex.: AMD), Price, Processor Type (ex.: Athlon 64), Bus Speed (ex.: 2000 MHz) and/or Socket Type (ex.: Socket 939)
Ok, so it’s lame that it does ‘4 U’, but the rest is really nice to have. I haven’t played with MovieFone yet, but that seems pretty useful too, I don’t go to the movies much anymore, so I doubt it’d be very useful to me. But how can you all complain about this? Its two buddies added to your list, is it that big of a deal? Are you all so OCD that you can’t have a group collapsed at the bottom of your list? It’s one thing to bash AOL about it’s bloated IM client, or it’s ads, but they did something good this time, it doesn’t hurt you in any way, and you might just find it helps you at some point, give it a try.
November 17, 2005 at 3:13 am #131684DragonSlayerzMemberI did what David did but with Movie Fone, who I agree with is nice.

Isn’t that cool :woot:November 17, 2005 at 11:43 am #131677DrBroccoliParticipantI do agree with Dave, to some extent. If I want to find a price of something or even a movie time, I am not going to IM someone, or something in this case. I prefer to go to somewhere does all this and more, Google! Not only becuase its good and works, but becuase its a resource I have pretty much everywhere I go.
November 17, 2005 at 12:43 pm #131679MrEggsaladParticipantI did play with the bots a bit (obviously) but for MovieFone it really took too many steps to get specific show times (plus I don’t really feel comfortable with giving them my REAL zip, no I’m not that stupid, I gave a fake). The Shopping one like Dave was saying has that lame “4 U” however isn’t too bad. Then like Shadow said, I am NOT going to IM for prices/movies, I will go search Google.
November 17, 2005 at 6:24 pm #131673CronusParticipantMrEggsalad, given that AOL already has your IP, they can probably approximate your zip code, unless you’re not connecting to AIM directly.
