Does AIM have a changelog of some sort? I’m looking for something from like 4.8x-5.9x
or
Is there a brave soul out there who has the time to spider through pages and pages of websites and compile one up for me? 😀
there is no official “changelog” for aim, but through old archives of http://www.aim.com/get_aim/win/win_beta.adp you can piece one together. every time aol/aim release a new version they add “New Features in version x” to the page that holdes the link to the download. using these archives one could easily compile a “changelog” of sorts.
this has obvious drawbacks. the archives created by archive.org take around 6 months to appear, the offical statement being “We do not add pages less than 6 months after they are collected, because of the time delayed donation from Alexa. Updates can take up to 12 months in some cases.” this means that the newest archives of this page are not available yet (for y2k5). also since this archive isn’t updated “daily” some versions may not be shown at all.
the following page links you to all the available archives
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.aim.com/get_aim/win/win_beta.adp
oldest archive:

what is a changelog?
a changelog is basically a list of the things they’ve changed from one version of aim to the next. for most programs, each time they release a new version, they release a list of what they changed. bug fixes, new features, etc…
it’s a log of the changes. thus.. changelog.
