Hi, can someone please explain to me what an AIM client is?
Sure! When someones uses the phrase “AIM client” they are referring to the software program that you use to connect to the AIM service to send and receive instant messages or chat. There are several “clients” available to choose from: AOL subscribers have a special version of the client; AIM is the free version from AOL; other third party companies make compatible clients, including Trillian, GAIM, Odigo, Sonork, etc.
Basically a “client” in this context, is just another word for a program.
Is ICQ an AIM client? I was on ICQ and someone said to me “your AIM client is turning it into an emoticon” (Referring to a smiley).
ICQ and AIM are owned by the same company I believe, and ICQ is an ICQ client. Do you run both ICQ and AIM? Was the user an ICQ user?
Yes they were using ICQ and I wasn’t running both, although I have them both.
P.S thankyou for replying
AIM 5.x is supposed to allow you to IM ICQ users, but I haven’t been able to get this working. I can add an ICQ user to my buddy list, but they never appear online (even when I KNOW they are). So AIM is supposed to be an ICQ client, but I’m not sure if ICQ is now, or ever will be, an AIM client.
