Hi–I can open up AIM, sign on, connect like a regular person. I can also IM somebody as much as I want. A buddy can then IM me once. The second time they IM me, however, Windows XP then tells me,
AIM has encountered an error and must close.
It then tells me that:
AppName: aim.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: kernel32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.1106 Offset: 00016b97C:DOCUME~1ANDREW~1LOCALS~1TempWER15A.tmp.dir00appcompat.txt
Does anybody understand this? I have a dial-up connection. I’ve tried to get rid of expendable crap on my computer in the event that memory is a problem. Please help!
I’ve posted about this problem already. This happens when I IM or get IMed by AOL members. I think it is because of the Windows Update, but i’m not positive. If you have this problem and you have recently updated the Windows Update, then this is probaly the cause.
If I figure out the Windows Update is the cause, then I will post tellign you how to get rid of the updates.

Do you have AIM+ ? If you do uninstall it.. then re-install it and uncheck the box in the prefrences that says “IM/Chat History”
