Ever since replacing my wireless Linksys WRT54GS router with a Belkin N+, AIM disconnects and reconnects itself. On AIM 5.9, it’s usually every hour. On the latest version of AIM, it’s every two hours or so. The latest version seems to work better for some reason but they both have the same problem. This appears to happen when the computer is idle. I read somewhere that Belkin N+’s have some sort of power-saving feature that disconnects programs that are not in use while the computer is idle. Does anyone know how to change this?
Last night I noticed that I also can’t sign on to AIM 5.9 at night. This was also happening with my old router.
I’ve contacted my ISP and Belkin support but they basically blame each other and send me back and forth. I’ve tried forwarding the port (5190 for 5.9) but that didn’t work. I’ve reformatted my computer and reinstalled AIM and my wireless adapter but that didn’t work either. This also happens on a laptop with a built-in wireless adapter.
I’m not exactly sure which information I should include:
ISP: HughesNet
Modem: HN7000S
Router: Belkin N+
Wireless Adapter: Linksys
OS: Windows 7 (also happens on Vista)May 22, 2010 at 11:57 pm #176739lol dillonParticipantIf that router has a firewall, login into the router website (http://192.x.xx.x) or something along those #’s and disable the firewall.
