AIM error after spyware removal

Yesterday I deleted tons of spyware by using both spybot and adware. Now I an unable to use IM. The error states that I have encountered a problem and need to close. The error signature states aim.exe appver 5.93702 (c:docum~1ownerlocals~1temf7a_accompat.txt. ) I can still go to chat rooms but not IM!!! Help.

Have you tried reinstalling AIM?

Yes, I have uninstalled and reinstalled so many times but it still will not work for the IMs–just the chat.

Try downgrading to a version with out Spyware.

use aim 5.2.3292, which doesn’t contain any spyware.

5.2.3292 still installs Viewpoint & AOL on Desktop (not exactly spyware but far from required in running AIM). The 5.2 series has many vulnerabilities/exploits the newer versions don’t as well.

When you download any AIM version, make sure you go to C:Program Files and delete AOD and AWS. Those are the AOL On Desktop and AIM spyware folders.
