October 3, 2002 at 2:51 pm #100299FanaticMemberYep. Go to AIM-Expressions.com. They’ve got a bunch of expressions for music, movies, sport teams, models and more.

October 7, 2002 at 5:56 am #100301-nik-Participantif you want to make your own AIM expressions follow text below and you’ll have your very own 😡 but i can’t remember where i found the text to give proper credit to. When your expression is done you can add it into the Resources folder where you installed AIM. You’ll need you sign off AIM then back on for your expression to show in the list.
STEP 1: GETTING AN IDEA
The first thing you need for your theme is an IDEA. Try to think of something that appeals to a mass audience, like DOGS or CATS, etc. Don’t make one of “My Aunt Helen” Because then nobody will download it.
STEP 2: GET/EDIT PICTURES
Whatever it is you’re making, you need to get pictures for it.
go to http://www.google.com , click on “images”, and type in your theme category, and GET IMAGES. You need them for each of the following things:
1: Top (Where AD banner is)
2: Buddy List Side (To the left of your Buddy List)
3: Buddy List Background (Goes behind the names of your buddies)
4: IM Side (Goes to the left of the IM)
5: IM Background (Behind the text you’re typing)
6: Buddy Icon (Becomes the theme’s buddy icon)OK, now you’ve got your pictures. Now it’s time to Edit #s 3 and 5. Open up your favorite imaging program (Either ADOBE PHOTOSHOP or JASC PAINT SHOP PRO). If you don’t have these, and can’t possibly think of a place to get them *HINT: http://www.jasc.com ; http://www.adobe.com then you should slap yourself because you deserve it.) Now, Change the OPACITY to 10-20% (depending on the picture). You just want it to be a watermark. OK, now that you’ve done that, WHAT’s NEXT?
STEP 3: EDITING THE BLSKIN.XML, IMSKIN.XML, and MANIFEST.XML files
Here’s where a lot of noobs get confused. IT’S NOT HARD. I’ve had people ask me how to edit these, and i say “use notepad.” They say “what is notepad?” These are the people who are to be our future, which is very sad. Anyways, I suggest editing the files in this order:
imskin.xml
blskin.xml
manifest.xmlRight click on imskin.xml. Hit “Open with…” and choose “NOTEPAD”. You’ll get a nifty little thing that has a bunch of junk, but in reality, you only need to edit the 5th line that looks like this:
CONTENT=”http://www.awebsitething.com/buddyim.htm”/
NOW…you need to change this thing to YOUR website. If you don’t have a website, and can’t find out how to get one, then please give up now because there’s no hope for you.
OK, so you’ve changed it. Now you save it (remember to save it as imskin.xml)!!!!!!
Now open up blskin.xml in the same fashion. This looks the same as imskin.xml pretty much, but there’s *2* things you need to change (lines 5 and 6) they look like this
FILLCOLOR=”FFFFFF”
CONTENT=”http://www.awebsitething.com/buddybl.htm”/change the webpage like you did last time.
now you need to change the FILLCOLOR to the color you want the rest of the buddy list to be. If you haven’t memorized every single hex value for colors, then you should go to http://www.google.com and type in “hex values for web page colors” or something like that. If, after 5 minutes of searching, you can’t find anything, then just give up. Save the file (rememeber blskin.xml)!!!!!now for the long one…open up manifest.xml in the same fashion you did blskin.xml and imskin.xml
there’s a bunch of garbage here, too; but there are only a few lines you need to change.
The first are lines 3, 4, and 5. They look like this.
ID=”00002000-0000-0000-0000-0000000000G”
THEME ID=”0000002-0002-0002-0002-00000000000G”
NAME LANG=”EN” TEXT=”OrigIcons”/Now, change some of the numbers, but make sure there’s the same number of digits. I.e. “00112000-0011-1100-1111-0000000001G”
do this to both.
And, Change TEXT=”OrigIcons” to TEXT=”THENAMEOFYOURTHEME”Now, go to lines 8, 9, 10, and 11. They look like THIS:
all you have to do is replace the “origicons” with the name of your theme.
Now, for the BART SIMPSONS.
you’ll notice a lot of BART=”dsafhijhsfe==” things. change the “asyidgqausyg==” to 14 characters of your choice. then, copy and paste that onto the other BART things, so they are all the same. Good job, now you can close it.
Now, assuming you didn’t mess anything up, your them should work.
STEP 3a: GETTING YO WEBPAGES UP.
You need to upload two webpages, whihc will be pointed to in the blskin and imskin.xml files.Make a new .txt file, and copy/paste this into it:
bl Now, all you gotta do is change “apic.jpg” to the name of the picture you want to have on the side of your buddy list.
Save this as whatever htm file the blskin.xml file points to. (i.e. buddybl.htm)
Now, make another TXT file, and copy/paste the same thing into it.
change the “apic.jpg” to the name of the picture you want to use on the side of your IM window.Save this as whatever htm file the imskin.xml file points to (i.e. buddyim.htm)
Now, use CuteFTP (http://www.cuteftp.com) or a similar program to upload them to your webspace. It’s difficult finding one that doesn’t put banners on it, but just search around on http://www.google.com for “free web pages no banners” and you should get something. Upload your files. Now make sure your files check!
I.e. blskin.xml should have “http://www.my****tywebsite.com/mydir/myfolder/buddybl.htm”
and imskin.xml should have
have “http://www.my****tywebsite.com/mydir/myfolder/buddyim.htm”STEP 4: ENDGAME
Now it’s time to zip em up and get ready to go. First of all, if you don’t have it already, it’s time to download winzip at http://www.winzip.com Install that.
Now, select all your images and right click on them and hit “Add to zip”
The winzip dialog box will come up. choose a directory, and then type out the name of your theme, followed by .arf and click “add”
i.e. c:windowsdesktoptheme.arf
There, now you’re theme is made. test it locally before you upload it
