MemberI’m getting so effing frustrated with my AIM right now. About every 30 minutes or so, I get one of those “AOL Instant Messenger has encountered an error and needs to shut down. Please tell Microsoft about this problem.” I don’t WANT to tell Microsoft my problems, I want my freaking AIM to not sign me off. It’s been going on for the past couple weeks..
I’m running on a Dell TrueMobile router, but I’ve had my network for a few months now and it never happened in the past..
WinXP Home, 640 MB of RAM, 2.0 GHz..
I also ran SpyBot and my Norton AntiVirus.. and nothing wrong was found.
Oh, and if I leave my AIM on all night, when I wake up.. it’s still online and stuff. It seems to only happen when I’m sitting there using it.
Possible user crash maybe? I don’t know..

Memberdoes it only happen when you go into a certain place? like a profile or something? I get errors like that if I edit a part of my aimres.dll wrong and I try to go into the place that I edited.maybe you have an addon that isnt compatible with something. see if it only happens when your in certain places or if its just a random time so I can help some more.

MemberNope. Just a random time. I’d say about 40% ofthe time is after I’ve just sent a picture on Direct IM, but the other places are random. And I’ve had the same version of AIMutation and the same version of AIM (5.2.3292) since I started my network.. and it worked fine back then. Blah.

ParticipantThe problem is that you have a virus scanner of some sort scanning your files. When the scanner scans a file in your AIM directory, it creates this error. Myself, I have Avast antivirus, and the error occurs when my scanner scans a file in my AIM directory. I suggest you turn off your antivirus scanner while chatting. Some virus scanners scan automatically without you knowing. And the reason why you’re able to leave your AIM on all night is because your scanner finished scanning all the AIM files before you leave it on all night.

He has NAV, and I’ve never heard of a virus scanner crashing programs, and I’m quite sure that Norton does not do this, maybe you have a low-quality scanner or something, because it should certainly not do this.

ParticipantI’m sorry if I misinformed you on this subject. It turns out that my antivirus did not cause the problem. But I didnt find out the cause of the problem. Whenever certain people IM me, it gives me the error. I do not know why this is happening. I’m thinking they may have a different version of AIM but I am not sure. But im sure that these people are causing the problem but I do not know why.
