Whatever it could go either way, by light I meant a program that could be maybe less than 1 Meg verse what is AIM 5.5 – 3 or 4 Meg? Then again he is correct it would be nice if there were an AIM Lite, that is kind of what I mean. Whatever.
Who agrees with me that AIM has way too much useless crap built into it? Who uses talk (that is what a phone is for)? Who uses the Stock Ticker? Who is going to use this Video crap (that is what yahoo or NetMeeting is for!!)? AIM Phone? Cheesy Games? IM Greetings? Sending Email from AIM? Okay it’s only maybe a couple hundred K of data to put those features there. Okay 100K here, 240K there, 90K over there, eventually that adds up to couple Megs, which is considerable. At that who wants spy ware in their computer? Of course you get into Reshacker, or Hex Workshop, or whatever Hex editor and waste your time of chopping this out, and that out, and this other out, and just hope it don’t corrupt some file which might be critical. Even at that you can cut out everything you see, but there is STILL some residual crap you missed, or you can’t delete. Think about in the sense of deleting crap files out of your computer, verse reformatting it. That is why I am calling for a totally new program, verse just trying to patch what we have.
The point of this all.
“AIM Lite (TM)” A simple AIM clone for windows, that is compact. It’s most advanced feature being Direct Connection. It would be meant to operate in a simple manner -> Send/Receive IMs, Functional Buddy List, Chat room capability, Away Messages. WITHOUT ALL THE GULIT!!March 25, 2004 at 11:42 pm #82542matttrenMemberOkay Mr. English Professor, I noticed a mistake Last paragraph I said, “it’s” which is a contraction for “it is”, I mean “Its” as in sense of possession.

Yes, but that definition is typically meant for objects with physical weight. So technically it doesn’t work as an adjective in this case. [:P]
Besides, it was intended to be a joke Captain Serious. 😐
The idea of an AIM Light is just more interesting to me than a lite version of AIM, IMO. But if you want to be boring go back to your discussion about Hexing AIM to death. 😉

I dont make phone calls with it, I use the paper or web sites for stock quotes, I can find games just about anywhere if i’m so inclined, and I hate AOL in general so i’ll never get an AOL email account or have any need for AIM to manage my email at all.
my goal is to hack it all out (eventually… I might have to upgrade to the new version of AIM since I cant direct connect anymore) but yeah a “lite” alternative might be good. and no I dont mean switching to trillian or miranda or any of those – I tried them all and wasnt impressed reallyMarch 26, 2004 at 7:11 am #82560panickedthumbMemberWell it shouldn’t be hard to hack it all down and repackage it should it? Kinda like a Kazaa lite thing. I’d like to see that.
March 26, 2004 at 7:39 am #82552.ParticipantAll things considering which would be easier… To chop it down by trial and error having someting to work with to start you off or creating an entierly new program from the bottem up. Take your pick if you want to but I think the first option would be the fastest and easiest.
