AIM problem

I am able to talk to my friend Aaron on IM, but he doesn’t appear on my buddy list. Even when I’m carrying on a conversation with him, his sn is under “offline”. When I scroll down to his screenname under the offline and click to check his info, I get his profile. The only thing I thought of was that I entered his sn incorrectly, but it is flawless. Help me if you can!

Maybe he is using the “invisible” feauture in the new AIM 5.5 ?
