I have never had a problem with aim until a few weeks ago, possibly after I updaterd to the latest version. Since updating the read mail functions routes me to my screename@netscape.net and not my aol screename. I do not have a netscape email or any other email. I have uninstalled aim and also aol 9,0, cleaned the registry, scandisk, defrag, adware scanned and finally reinstalled and also tried older versions and to different folders.
Any idea how to get my screename@aol.com back on the read mail function and mail alert window on aim?
I have had this problem before. I don’t know if this will help, but go ahead and try it anyway. It won’t hurt your computer. When the box comes up, you type in under e-mail address your screename@aol.com, like you have been doing. Then, under Pop3 server, you can try AOL’s FTP address, which I think is http://ftp.aol.com. Anyone have a follow up?
thanks I have tried that and all it does it open my buddy list, it does not operate the mail notification alert window or open internet explorer to http://www.aol.com as it used to operate
I am not getting the mail alert window for 2 out of three screennames that my family uses, all on the same AOL account. Tried AOL online help to no avail. There is no support mechanism for AIM. One screen name gets mail alert window when I log on to AIM, the other two do not. If you go My Aim – Mail Alert Window… you get an empty window.
I don’t think it’s your computer or the version of AIM. I am running Win98SE with AIM 5.5. My wife is running AIM 5.9.3690 with Win XP and both machines have the exact same problem. All you can do is go to aim.com and report the problem. AOL tech support told me to empty my cache and temp files….. what a joke.
Problem started after I upgraded to 5.9. AIM would not start. It would be in the Close Program list when I CNTRL-ALT-DEL. I would end it then restart it and it might work but my system was crashing constantly. Uninstalled it and got 5.5.3598 from oldversion.comthanks I tried using older versions too and am currently using version 5.2.3292 on an xp machine and I can’t get it to work. Aol and aim support is a joke. I have uninstalled everything regarding aol, including the registry, temp folders, etc, scandisks, defrag, etc and tried several versions and still could not get it to work …. but….. it does give me my screename@netscape.net, which I never had or ever used!!!!! what a wonderful product.
