MemberMy aim slows down while I am talking to people, it will not display messages they are sending but will show that they are typing. and when I click on their buddy info it shows the please wait… text. sometimes it will keep this up anywhere from 2-10 mins and it will come back to life having all the messages from the person I was talking to come in bulk. other times when it does this it doesnt recover but has to reconnect. when it does this I lose all messages that people sent to me in the time AIM was slow. and when I leave an away message up it does the same thing. this makes it so that I cannot see messages ive recieved while I was away. does this happen to anyone else? I really need some help. is there any files I need to remove or is there a better aim version I should use?

Memberthis happens to me too. I’m convinced it is a memory problem as it has happened with both 5.2 and 5.5. Some things to avoid:
Running too many programs at once
Sending/recieving large messages
Performing too many AIM functions at once (ex. talking to five people, downloading a picture, and checking a profile)if you believe it has slowed down/stopped check someones profile and if it says “please wait…” shut down AIM and log back on. this should fix the problem and you shouldn’t miss too many messages. however, if you don’t decrease your memory consumption it will just happen again and again. if it is really bad, consider restarting your computer.

Participantthat happened to me because of a defective wireless router we use.do you use one?

Memberwhat kind of router did you have? I have a linksys. I was told by a friend that it might have something to do with threshold frequency or something like that. does anyone know something about that?

MemberI had this problem using an older version of AIM. I do not have this problem with Trillian (which I use primarily) or AIM 5.5. I would check and make sure you are running the latest AIM version.

Participanti had a linksys too. all the people ive talked to about this problem had a linksys router also. its something to do with that, im sure of it. I got a new one and aim works fine now. you must have a defective router like I did.

Memberok so when you had this problem with the linksys router, did all your other internet programs run slow and shut off regularly too? I have this problem with kazaa lite, soulseek, and bearshare. also when I download larger files just off of webpages they have the tendency to stop mid transfer. AOL also does a similar thing where if it stays on for more than 15 mins it doesnt work anymore and has to be restarted. so it seems that if I try to maintain a constant flow into my comp from the internet it doesnt like that and stops. I guess I might have to buy a new router.

That does sound like a defective router or network interface card. I think Linksys will replace the router for free if you contact them.
