Hi,
I had AIM 5.9 (the Final 5.9 release) installed along with AIM Ad Hack. And I also had AIM 6.0 “triton” installed. My problem is, in triton i cannot see any smilies in IM’s ..they are just red X’s. In AIM 5.9 the smilies show up but only if I have chosen no custom smilies via the aim expressions page. And also the buddy icons dont show up
I uninstalled both of these and deleted the AOL registry entries then reinstalled but i get the same problems. Does anyone know what i can do?
Thanks!!

But I found it interesting that switching to one of my old screennames, the problem was fixed. But on my current screenname, still didn’t show. -.-
December 6, 2006 at 11:21 pm #153996hhhfanMemberI too have recently downloaded AIM 6.0 and all simles, expressions, and buddy icons come up with a RED X. Funny thing is on my desktop at home, they show up fine. Might I be missing a plug in?
December 6, 2006 at 11:31 pm #153994BShink21MemberHave you tried uninstalling completely then reinstalling?
Or maybe try having just one AIM client installed, and see if the smilies show up.December 6, 2006 at 11:52 pm #153997hhhfanMemberYes I have tried to completely uninstall AIM 6.0 from Add/Remove programs. No luck. I also checked to see if it is the only version on my system, and it is. Thank you.

If it’s on one computer, but not another, then it could be that the computer (which is working) has the smiley set already cached, so it doesn’t need to download it. I suggest testing other smiley sets. If some of them work, then it’s a server-side issue, but if 10 don’t work (dog, cat, flag, bear, alien, etc) then there’s a problem on the client side.
December 11, 2006 at 5:52 am #153998d2michaelMemberHi, I use aim 6.0 and have been following the thread, and trying to find my own solutions to the problem (uninstalling, deleting registry values, running ad hack, etc.) Well, I signed on to a completely different computer onto my sn, and even there I can’t see buddy icons, aim smileys, and the aim “shower” smileys; it’s the same thing, there’s red X’s all over the place. Can somebody find a way to fix this problem???? It would be GREATLY appreciated.
December 14, 2006 at 8:18 am #153993Jon8RFCMemberHmm…I just had a crazy idea which is worth a shot. I haven’t dug my teeth into Triton/6.0 enough yet, but maybe the newer version caches smile sets differently, but using the same heirarchy and/or naming scheme. Maybe there are smile sets cached from AIM Classic that Triton/6.0 cannot read properly.
Ensure AIM is completely exited, then delete the bartcache folder, located here:
