MemberOk well for some reason, whenever I am on AIM and put my away message on, then lock my computer, or let the screensaver come on…after a while when I come back and enter my password, my AIM status has been changed to mobile. I have my own SN on my buddy list for status purposes, so the AIM program tells me Im away, but my sn on the buddy list tells me im on mobile status. I do have IM Mobile Forwarding enabled, but I have turned on my away message…now why is this happening. I have checked with other peoples buddy lists, and it actually changes my status to mobile forwarding when this is not what I want. Now let me tell you about my AIM. I have AIM 5.9.3797 (or w/e the latest version is) with Messenger:Mate for AIM installed. I have emailed Messenger:mate but they assure me it is nothing with them. I am at a loss, I have turned idle messages off just incase it was that but that didn’t work. Is it a bug with the latest AIM? Any help you can offer would be great…I’m desperate, thanks.

MemberMy logical guess is that when you go idle (even without a message), the computer assumes that you’re not there, so it switches to mobile, letting people know that you have IM Forwarding on. Either stop forwarding your messages (just check them when you get home), or disable Idle Status with AIM. Either should work.

MemberThanks for the quick reply! In response, I have disabled idle, at least I think, I have, i have unchecked the setting that says let people know I am idle. And I really don’t want to disable the forwarding setting, by the same token it really shouldnt be doin that, I dont have any clue why it would be Messenger Mate. Anyone else? Thanks again.

MemberYeah hes right, idle or default message, your mobile will come up, in the old days they used to just let you go idle, I dont like when they do that. The AIMMobile, does that automatically

MemberWell, if that’s tru, how come when I return to the computer, the status remains the same on my BL. And also there is nothing I can do to disable this certain feature without ditching the entire mobile forwarding? Or better yet, can I just set it so my computer never goes idle? (and i’ve tried unchecking the let people see im idle button in the prefs), like just turn off idle so its never happens, hoping it won’t change the status from away, unless I say…

Cause it sounds like your saying they did not always do this with AIM. So do you mean if I install an older version, it will not mobile me when I go idle, even though I have Mobile Forwarding on??

MemberUpgrading to the latest AIM Beta, AIM Triton, might solve your problem: http://beta.aol.com/projects/tritonbeta/index.html?
If you don’t know what that is, it’s AOL’s target for the new AIM. It is a complete overhaul from the current interface, and looks completely different:

Again, I am not positive if this will solve your problem, but it’s worth a try if it means that much to you.

MemberI was thinking this too because its more like the AOL IMing interface. But its too much in its infancy as of it IMO. So Ill be waiting on that. In the meantime I discovered my problem, it seems whenever I lock my computer or password protect my screensaver (in essence locking my Windows XP), it sets mobile status on my SN, despite the fact I may have an away up. And sometimes it has an away icon next to my sn when in fact if you send an IM itll be forwarded to me phone, which is ‘golden’. So I need to find some way to lock my XP or just ditch the forwarding.
