AIM/Yahoo

I can’t speak for AIM…but YH seems very fickle with it’s connections at times (as is WLM). I have had the past problem (& many friends still do) where the connection sseems to drop randomly. Some people seem to experience it more than others, but I think we all have it at times.

The good news it YH does seem to retry to connect right away. I’d suggest first making sure you have the latest build of the program https://bigblueball.com/forums/yahoo-messenger-support/40933-latest-version-yahoo-messenger-v8-1-0-415-a.html . Another worthwhile thing to do is install the YH plug-in (from the plug-in gallery” to “remember your status” as one of the irritants for me was I’d just change right back to being online when it reconnected.

Another thing that pops to mind is when you’re on wireles there are a number of things that can interfere with signals, such as cordless phones on a certain frequency & microwave ovens. Even if you’re not using one – someone in near vicinity could be. I’d try changing the channel on your router & seeing if that helps. Also, your ISP could b dropping for a split second & tho not long enough for your browser to recognize, messengers can be more sensitive to it. Just keep it in mind, especially if it happens at home more often than it does if you happen to be connected somewhere else.

Finally & perhaps only a conincidence for me…when I went from a non-encrypted to a WEP connection on my router it seemed to help. For some reason, on one of my machines, it would get very easily “confused” when there were other signals around & it caused all kinds of trouble (far more than just dropping messenger connections) but it can’t hurt & it’s certainly good policy to be on a more secure connection anyway.
