Help
Can anyone advise me where I might be going wrong as far as Alert & Sounds are concerned. I think I have set it up correctly. However when I am in contact with friends I receive sounds but only intermittently, which suggests that somewhere along the line the setup procedure is either incorrect or incomplete. Any input highly appreciated.
ThanksSeptember 15, 2005 at 10:02 pm #130207ToeBeeMemberHi November and welcome to BBB,
As far as I know there are no options to change the sound in the installation process, unless maybe when you do a custom install.
You can turn sounds on and off from the main messenger window. In the preference > alerts & sounds. Might as well check there first. But sounds like you may need to do a fresh install.
Also you said its intemittant? Do you mean its cutting in and out while the sound is happening? Or it works sometimes and other times it doesn’t? Have you noticed any sound problems with other programs?

September 16, 2005 at 1:02 pm #130212novemberMemberBy intermittent I mean there are times when the sound activates and there are times when it does not. There are no obvious sound problems i.e. all other progs which require sounds on my PC work with no problem. Even within messenger when a test of what sounds I want to receive is acticated they work find.

September 16, 2005 at 4:48 pm #130208ToeBeeMemberWhat alert sounds are you having problems with? Because some are not supposed to work all the time. If someone sends you a message you will hear a alert sound, but you will not hear that sound again if you keep their IM window open. You would only hear the sound if they sent the message and the IM window was closed.

Thanks for your advice. What you have said appears to be the cause. I must close the IM window of my contact before I hear an alarm. I tried it and it worked without any problem. Your help much appreciated and will make contact shud any further arise.

Say you have two different IM boxes open, when you are chatting in one and the other person IM’s you, you WILL hear a sound, but while you are chatting with the person and they IM you and the icon is still in that IM box, then you will NOT hear a sound for them. Well that’s how it works with me, hope that helps a bit.
