In an effort to try and prevent IP theft and the like I have GhostSurf Pro installed which allegedly gives me a proxy IP address via their network however that works and also use ZoneAlarm (purchased version). When I log on to the net and plan on being on Yahoo I activate GhostSurf. Is this giving me any protection from troublemakers or people tracking back to me or is it a waste of time? Also, I must shut down my ZA in order to sign in to YM which once I am signed in I start it back up but some of the worst pop ups and data miners already install in just those few minutes and I must run Ad-Ware each time to remove them. Am I truly anonymous and is there anything I can do regarding signing in without lowering my shield? Thanks for any advice.
As long as you have the latest security updates and take precautions not to just give out information to those who dont need it, you should be fine.
Having an IP address is not much help unless a person knows what to do with it. The reason that you may not be able to run yahoo messenger while you have zone alarm may be because you have not added yahoo messenger to your zone alarm safe list.
Do this open your zone alarm go to Program Control and add yahoo messenger to the the programs that have access to the internet that should take care of your problem of having ZL running when you connect to the internet.
You do not have to worry too much about going on yahoo. I have never used ghost surf so I no idea how good it is. If you just want to hide your ip route u’r internet access through a proxy, you can find a lot of public proxies out there.
Hope that helped
