MemberI was recently talking to someone on AIM. Casually he dropped that he was a great hacker and knew many things about me. Question, is it possible this guy is watching what I am doing, that he is somehow connected to my computer? Could he have done it through AIM or another way? I must sound technologically illiterate but I’d really like to know.
Thanks,

MemberDid he actually give you any information that he discovered by “hacking” you, or did he just say he could do it. Many people are just all talk…

Don’t be frightened. I’m merely a crude uncouth ill-bred person lacking culture and refinement…June 8, 2002 at 1:37 am #101763Zlink123
Membermy bet is that he was a fake…like lilartistnpoet said most people are all talk when it comes to matters like that. Also, this person used hacker like it is a bad word. If he is telling the truth then he is really a Cracker, or someone who uses their knowledge of breaking security barriers in a bad way. REAL hackers are people who use their extreme knowledge of computers, software, etc to do good things like help administrators solve their security problems. SO remember, Hacker is good, Cracker is bad. 🙂

Member1. He may be a fake, dont judge, you dont know.
2. As long as you didnt connect with him, your fine. Hackers use ports to connect with your computer ONLY if your computer gives access, like as a trojan or even connecting with him.
My 2 cents

Memberobtaining an IP address of a buddy is simple.
when they are online and chatting with you…….. open a DOS Prompt and type in NETSTAT.
If a firewall could hide your IP, you couldnt surf, its the web’s identity # for you.

KeymasterThe exception would be a hardware firewall. My router also provides firewall capabilities. The router gets the ISP-assigned IP address, but my computer actually uses a different private IP address. So even if you know my IP address, you don’t have access to my PC.

It’s a plain old DSL router.

MemberTry visiting http://www.auditmypc.com and going to the privacy section. It may tell you about your proxy, your internal IP address and DSL assigned IP address.
Look for a forwarded_for address.
