What do we all think of this topic. Might be related to Instant Messaging but it seems a bit spammy to me, also encourages invasion of other people’s privacy.
May 31, 2005 at 10:59 am #122838DJHyperbyteMemberConsidering that this is an IM forum, I don’t think an advertisment for IM software is necessarily spam, especially not in the descriptive manner it happens in your example. As for the invasion of privacy, BuddySpy is also supported by the Yahoo subforum, so I don’t suppose the people in charge of that subforum will make a big deal out of it.
Then again, it’s not me who’s in charge of that subforum so I can only guess.

There is no way to read archieves offline on a different PC and you NEED to be logged in…unless something has changed…this is crap. I’m sure it will be at LEAST moved to RR for discussion. It sounds like this guy may be phising or whatnot.

May 31, 2005 at 12:57 pm #122837detn8rParticipantYou’re not gaining access to anyone’s account, the conversations are stored locally, so you may be able to read them while offline. Because of this, you are able to open/read other people’s logs who may have used your computer. Big deal, Messenger Plus! for MSN Messenger does this also. Although it has the option to have them locked until a password is used, it’s still available. My opinion is to move it back and just remove the part where it says to read others logs. The program looks legit to me.
May 31, 2005 at 4:57 pm #122840shifterMemberDet’s right, the only logs someone can view with this are the ones stored locally on their own computers, no account access is gained. We have allowed links to these types of programs in the past for users who could not access there logs because of forgotten passwords. However, I don’t think we should allow this one simply because of the emphasis this member placed on viewing other people’s logs. It’s all in the presentation, and this was presented the wrong way. If he wants to write up a new thread about the programs legitimate uses, then that’s another story. But why should we do it for him? Especially if he joined soley to promo his product.
May 31, 2005 at 6:14 pm #122842amy_d_gParticipantI know there have been people posting in the past saying, “my boyfriend/girlfriend/wife/husband is cheating on me, how do i read their conversations without them knowing?” and generally the have all been told it was an invasion of privacy and they would not recieve help with that here. This program allows just that, as well as the option to enable archiving on someone’s account without them knowing. (This is assuming they share the same pc, of course.)
