Got this via Yahoo! Messenger last night:
Quote:quote:State police warning got online: Please read this VERY carefully…then send it out to all the people online that you know. Something like this is nothing to take casually; this is something you DO want to pay attention to. Think of this as a bit of advisce too. If a person with the screen-name of Monkeyman935 contacts you, DO NOT REPLY! DO NOT talk to this person; do not answer any of his/her instant messages or e-mail. Whoever this person may be, he/she is a suspect for murder in the death of 56 women (so far) contacted through the internet. Please send this to everybody on your buddy list and ask them to pass it onDo people really believe that the state police ask you to “send this to everyone on your buddylist?” Have the brains of the Internet generation been crispy-fried by too many late nights in front of the glowing cathode ray tube? Doesn’t anybody use critical thinking anymore? Argh!!!! 😮
One final note: Please use the Email to a Friend link at the bottom of this topic to forward this to everyone on your buddylist. In fact, also send it to everyone not on your buddylist (which will, in fact, eventually include those people currently on your buddylist if you continue to forward tripe). 😀

November 11, 2003 at 10:26 pm #53532WolfriderMemberAnd yet, people will fall for it. Aren’t internet users supposed to be slightly smart? I mean they can figure out how to use a computer right?

HAHAHAHA. right. sure they are.
i know some people *cough* (no names of course) that are lucky if they know how to turn on the computer by themselves, but somehow they still end up online. that’s why i could never take a job in tech support – i’d end up just telling people to turn off their computer and never touch it again.

December 6, 2003 at 5:34 pm #53527DavidParticipantUm, do people not think? Never forward an IM that says to send it to everybody you know, that’s BS, and it always has been.
Use your head online, it’s as simple as that.

Well, obviously LCD users run much lower risk of brain-frying, and are therefore less susceptible to forwarding bogus IM hoaxes to everyone on their buddy list. Of course, their brain could always be fried by something else, but then, that’s another problem, isn’t it.
December 25, 2003 at 4:52 pm #53528FimusMemberOf course, how could I miss that?
