Meebo is a new web-based instant messenger that supports AIM, ICQ, MSN and Yahoo. They had their public launch yesterday, and while it’s still in alpha stage, it looks and feels pretty good. Check out my initial impressions, then see Meebo for yourself.
I’m curious to hear how you think Meebo stacks up against other web-based instant messengers.
September 16, 2005 at 10:56 pm #130268MrEggsaladParticipantI did. I have to say it’s really great. Just like having Trillian in my browser. *thoughts about using it for school…*
September 17, 2005 at 10:35 pm #130266LLXerxesMemberFor an alpha version, it was pretty good. Hopefully the newer ones will have more features, tho.
September 20, 2005 at 7:29 pm #130267LLXerxesMemberLookin’ better already! 😀
They added new features (I think) and also the ability to access Jabber/GTalk.September 20, 2005 at 8:10 pm #130258Jeff HesterKeymasterYes, yesterday they added a Google Talk/Jabber interface, fixes for the MSN Messenger bug and emoticons. They move pretty quick!
September 20, 2005 at 8:58 pm #130260DavidParticipant“A couple Stanford grads have…” Might I remind everyone where the Google boys graduated from.. I expect nothing less, this is however, quite impressive. I’ve never seen a web-based messenger with such an attractive and function graphical interface… not to mention the low latency. I’d like to see where this is going.
September 20, 2005 at 9:04 pm #130259AnnaParticipantThat’s pretty nifty. A great alternative to those (MSN) web messengers.
September 20, 2005 at 9:19 pm #130265DrBroccoliParticipantI used it, very nice! Excellent graphics, and MOVABLE WINDOWS! Lol, it was very nice, and I used it on dialup, I must say, dialup friendly, but that cannot compare with my cable modem now :D.
September 20, 2005 at 9:41 pm #130269AqeelParticipantOh’ great:) I like the interface. What a web messanger this is:)
I’m on ”rusty” dialup and it worked very well.September 21, 2005 at 11:51 am #130264sarahtownyMemberWow just used it as I am at work. Yahoo web messenger hardly ever works for me, so this is great!!!
October 13, 2005 at 11:24 am #130263elisejkMemberI have also used it at work where I might add they have blocked all other messaging services. I won’t use it too often as I’m sure they are “watching” and will eventually block that too. I did appear that I timed out when using it at home, and I’m not sure why that happened, will go to their forum and check it out.
October 13, 2005 at 12:53 pm #130256Jeff HesterKeymasterWow I am really impressed by Meebo. It really is an awesome web messenging alternative. I was amazed by the fact you can resize the windows and move them around. Incredible. I’m sure this will gain a lot of popularity in the future.
Oh and for those who use Opera as their main browser. It is not supported there.
October 13, 2005 at 12:56 pm #130261AwesomeSauceParticipantMeebo is an awesome web messenger because it’s the only web messenger site that isn’t blocked at school. 🙂
October 13, 2005 at 1:01 pm #130257Jeff HesterKeymasterI’ve already heard about some schools here blocking it according to some high school kids I know. I think it is just a matter of time for schools to realize a lot of kids are starting to use it and block it.
July 13, 2006 at 10:30 pm #130270EditorMemberMuch better thn Trillian, Paltalk.
